The original 1%'er was Marlin Brando in the movie "The Wild One".

The movie was loosely based on the bad behavior of the Booze Fighters Motorcycle Club at a 1947 Hollister, California racing event. The story appeared in newspapers across the country. That incident served as the inspiration for the movie "The Wild One". The movie was released in April of 1954 and there was an immediate rash of outlaw motorcyclist copy-cats. Motorcyclists and motorcycle clubs were quickly gaining a bad name. To counter this the AMA published an article seeking to reassure people that "99% of all of their members are law-abiding citizens and only 1% are 'outlaw'". From that moment on 'outlaw' bikers have been calling themselves the 1%. But it all started with "The Wild One" and Marlon Brando's portrayal of the original outlaw biker, the original 1%'er.

"The Black Rebels Motorcycle Club (BRMC), a gang led by Johnny Strabler, rides into Carbonville, California during a motorcycle race and causes trouble"

I have a friend who literally lives next door to Sonny Barger.
He does not worry about his home when he goes on vacation, Sonny said "I'll keep an eye on it"
