This is becoming rather silly, and I am sure it is born out of ignorance too.
I think it's being done to generate some sort of political power over the employer. Now they want time to pray on company time. What will they want next? To be away from work, yet still get full pay during the various Muslim holidays?

We have several practicing Muslims working for us, with three under my personal direction, at our headquarters. None have ever reduced their hours or their output/performance as a result of their religion. However, I do notice that in North Africa (Algeria, Libya) and in Djibouti (where I lived for 5 years) the government agencies get nothing done during Ramadan and use it as an excuse for doing absolutely nothing and excessive absenteeism.
