I suspect that you are correct about the capacity of the reformed WW brass being greater than Starline. My experience with WW brass is that it consistently seems to have a tad more capacity than other manufacturers, and that in 20th century American military calibers, Remington is about equal to GI brass for capacity.

When you form 40-65 cases from 45-70 it will make the neck thicker and may be a problem with a tight chamber when using a .410 bullet. I have to neck turn mine.

True, Bill.
I have RCBS 3-die that is marked for ".410" and I have a Lyman neck die and a Lyman crimp die.
I think I have it covered, for .408 bullets.
As it happens, both my Starline and WW brass (formed from 45-70) seem to have same neck wall thickness, about 0.012".
Thickening neck brass from sizing down .45-70 might be perfect with .408 bullets and the RCBS dies.
Maybe the WW 45-70 neck wall was thinner to start with?
Rounds of Starline and .409 bullet chambered OK.
It can only get better from that .409/440-grain bullet load. tu2

While you are waiting for the Saeco 740 to come off back order, get a Lyman 410655 from Natchez Shooter's Supply. It is a 420 grain flatnosed bullet that is accurate and a superb hunting bullet. My Pedersoli shoots it lights out with 58 grains of KIK 2f.

Available. On the way.
Nominally a .406-.410/400-grain bullet mould, but 420-grain bullet in 1-20 alloy?

Mine are 50/50 ww and lead, about 30-1. I was surprised at the weight as well, but it shoots very well in both my 40-65 and my 40-70 Sharps Straight. The powder really doesn't seem to matter if it is 2f or 3f. I have a friend who uses it in his 40-65 Shiloh as well.
