The giraffe bone and buffalo horn knife is just sublime.
I am fortunate in having a source of raw giraffe bone straight from South Africa. Have a half dozen handles worth in the hot cupboard.
I may need some come my next birthday or Christmas. Also the first knife with the metal curved bolster makes me drool too. I see a paring knife in my future...

Von GruffWith all the handsanding done on this lot, it was time to look at handles on those that are not going into the ready drawer.
From the left is some antler but there will be brass guard ad pommel on that one then a nice piece of walnut over spalted buckeye bolsters koa over buff and gold tassie blackwood over buff. box Elder on the 7 in chef and stunning piece of Honduran rosewood on the 5 in chef. english oak on the general pupose and burma camphor burl on the pair of steak knives.
09 April 2021, 00:29
Von GruffSome beautiful wood on the way. Spent some time this morning selecting some more exhibition grade handle blocks. This is part of the selection with gold and dark Koa, box elder, spalted maple, and hickory burl among them. As always the pic does not really show the spectaculer colours and contrasts that is reveasled when it is in hand but Jason Williams does short videos of the blocks I select, turning them in all directiosn so I can get a full picture of what is offered.

Von GruffA descent result for the day with these now in the handle rack waiting for leather.

boom stickIs that Honduran rosewood knife already sold? Do you have more wood like that?

No not sold. I made some of these for the local outlet. I have one more set of scales for a slim handled knife

Von GruffThat is my Professional Hunter EDC pattern.
I bought a selection of para cord in OD, chocolate, black and white so can do lanyards to match most handles
13 May 2021, 23:49
boom stickI have a knife that sits deep in a leather sheath like that one and it needs the square braid lanyard to quickly deploy tip up
and tip down depending on how I grip the lanyard/knife junction.
15 May 2021, 05:42
Von GruffIt probably could have been better with a lanyard but the customer wanted the deep set sheath as he had lost a couple of knives from lessor sheaths and wanted the security but there was no mention of a lanyard and with it not something usually being part to this pattern I did not even think of it during the design process.

Von GruffExciting new option for my US custimer base with blade engraving being done in Illinois by Tony from Byrd Laser Engraving LLC These are the first ones off his bench and I am really happy with the added touch they add to the knives.

Von GruffFinally able to get this order done and sharpenedafter hold-ups with the handle material. A full set of the kitchen knives plus a 1911 grip set from the little 3 inch peeler through the His n Hers table knives, 4 inch and 5 1/2 inc general purpose, 5 1/2 inchh chef, 7 1/2 inch chef, 71/2 inch nakiri to the bearded chef. All have blades of croyo treated NitroV (bar the bearded chef that was freezer treated as it dosent fit in the neck of the liquid nitrogen container) and all with Resin Ivory handles.
I started again on the 1911 grip set as I wasn;t happy with the first set and it was night and day difference on the mill as oppsed to the dripp press.
12 July 2021, 10:23
boom stickThat’s what I call a set of knives!
Maybe you can now make a 1911 series using the new grips you just made for larger knives.
Who would not want a chef knife with pistol grips?
12 July 2021, 12:57
boom stickOne thing that is blatantly obvious and amazing is you get over 9” of blade length for about the same overall length as a steak knife with the bearded chef knife. It is truly unique and can do so much.

And have another to do with the same resin ivory scales for my accountant and that will about pay for his fees for doing last years taxes. Win win for me.

Von GruffBeen playing with a new design for police rescue. Will be from cryo treated 4.8mm NitroV so plenty stout and with the low sabre grind will leave a good edge. The glass breaker behind the handle is square to the centerline so will be a platform to hammer against if the need is to drive the tip into a vehicle pannel and I may even look at kydex for the sheath as the micarta handle will be another first with textured/scalloped finish.

Von GruffReady for foil wrap and heat treat when I get some more liquid nitrogen for the cryo quench
28 July 2021, 06:14
boom stickQuestion…
Is this a customer design?
I have some possible input for the rescue aspect but not so much the police side for a future spin on the concept.

Not a customer design but one I came to after some thought and a bit of feedback from a police/customer who is in the shop watching his hunting knife being made on his days off.
