I just thought I would post my recent results of working with my 9.3x62. Date: Nov 19, 2004 Cartridge: 9.3x62 Firearm: CZ 550 American Scope: Leupold VX-II 1-4x Barrel Length: 23.6" (60 cm) Bullet: Prvi Partizan Bullet Weight: 285 (18.5g) Powder: RL-15 Powder Weight: 58.0 Case Make: Graf Primer: WLR (not magnum) C.O.L.: 3.29" Chronograph Shot# Velocity fps 1 ___ 2,317 2 ___ 2,320 3 ___ 2,327 4 ___ 2,314 5 ___ 2,319 6 ___ 2,307 7 ___ 2,309 8 ___ 2,299 9 ___ 2,314 10 __ 2,318 Summary Average Velocity: 2,314 fps Average Energy: 3,389 ft lb High Velocity: 2,327 fps Low Velocity: 2,299 fps Extreme Spread: 28 fps Standard Deviation: 7 fps Coefficient of Variation: 0.30 % (Coefficient of Variation = std deviation / average velocity) (Just a handy ratio for comparing one load to another.) This load was very accurate with a couple of 5-shot groups hovering right around 1 inch or so. Velocity is on the mild side but still within 9.3x62 velocity specs. (If I remember correctly, Kynoch/ICI loaded their ammo to 2250 fps. Sellier & Bellot currently loads to a spec of 2280 fps.) For those of us in the USA, the 9.3 Prvi Partizan bullets are available at Grafs at very attractive prices. ($18.99 per 100) I was very pleased with the accuracy of this bullet considering their price. Should make a great practice load and it would probably work just fine on hogs down here in Texas. -Bob F.

BF - Thanks again; I'll have to try your load. Did they group as well as the other load? Right now my CZ550 is in the gun shop having a new set of Dakota "irons" installed. Mags

All rifles are slightly different. My 550 American likes 57.0 gr of RL-15 with either Norma or Graf brass. On Norma brass I got the following results with the 286 gr Nosler and WLR primers for a 10 shot string on a recently calibrated Pact Chrono: SD 2.5 MAD 1.9 ES 4.4 Ave Vel 2,417.5 I was amazed by the low ES (extreme spread) and the high velocities. Rifle shoots sub MOA with this load when I do my part. Is a fine load and worked well on plains game in RSA; taking Impala, Warthog, Blue Wildebeast, Kudu and Zebra. All were one shot pass through kills with the exception of the Kudu who had not read "The Perfect Shot." I use Graf brass for all practice and local hunting and find it works very well too. Date: 4/23/2005 Cartridge: 9.3x62 Firearm: CZ 550 Scope: Leupold VX-II 1-4x Barrel Length: 23.6" Bullet: Nosler Partition Bullet Weight: 286 Powder: RL-15 Powder Weight: 57.0 Case Make: Graf Primer: WLR C.O.L.: 3.34" Note that the COL is longer than the standard spec of 3.29" My CZ 550 cycles fine with 286 gr Nosler Partition set to COL of 3.35 inches. Plenty of room in the magazine and the throat. Shot# _ Velocity fps 1 __ 2,349 2 __ 2,357 3 __ 2,359 4 __ 2,335 5 __ 2,366 6 __ 2,357 7 __ 2,361 8 __ 2,375 9 __ 2,354 10 _ 2,343 Summary Average Velocity: 2,356 fps Average Energy: 3,526 ft lbs High Velocity: 2,375 fps Low Velocity: 2,335 fps Extreme Spread: 40 fps Standard Deviation: 11 fps Coefficient of Var. 0.47 % (Coefficient of Variation = std deviation / average velocity) (Just a handy ratio for comparing one load to another.) Notes: Very accurate load. Basically duplicates the standard 9.3x62 load of a 286 gr bullet at 2360 fps muzzle velocity.

I am very glad to have this info. as I just bought a bag of Graf brass yesterday. I have some Sellier & Bellot ammo, a few boxes of new Norma ammo and now the Graf brass. I have one superb, vintage Mauser 98 sporter in the 9.3 and a CZ-550 FS on order, due in about a month or two. I am curious as to how guys have found the quality of the Graf brass compared with RWS and Norma, for example? Any opinions would be welcome.

Some of my comments about Graf 9.3x62 brass from some other previous threads: --------------------------------------- I don't know who makes it but I've been very happy with the Graf brass. But, in the interest of full disclosure, I haven't tried any other brand of brass in my 9.3x62. My guess would be that the Lapua and Norma brass is probably a little more uniform but I've had such good results with the Graf brass I haven't bothered trying other brands. My two cents.... -Bob F. From: which brass for 9.3x62? I'm using the Graf's brass in 9.3x62. I've been pleased with it so far. Some of the flash holes need a little cleaning up but not a big deal. The shoulders appear to be nicely annealed. For the price, it seems to be pretty decent brass. -Bob F. From: Graf brass, anybody use it? I've been using the Graf brass in my 9.3x62 and I've been very happy with it. Also, the Prvi Partizan 285 gr component bullets from Graf's have been accurate in my CZ 550 (around 1 to 1.25 inch groups at 100 yds). But, I've never hunted with them. I use them for inexpensive practice as they shoot to the same point of impact (at 100 yards) as my 286 gr Woodleigh RN loads. I've never used the factory Prvi ammo, however. -Bob F. From: 9.3X62 ammunition --------------------------------------- I used the Graf brass in my 9.3x62 on my recent trip to South Africa last August. It worked fine; no problems. Some photos and results of my trip can be found here: Back from RSA - photos. -Bob F.

Thankyou, that is what I wanted to know as I remembered that first thread, vaguely, and am interested in results. I will now buy a couple of more bags of Graf brass and should be good to go for the rest of my shooting life. Thanks again, very helpful.
