I'm gearing up to start loading for the .375 Wby. I already loaded a few rounds for my smith to use as test rounds through my new rifle. Doing that, I've already found that it's going to be pretty hard to get a max charge of AA4350 in the case and seat a boattail bullet. I haven't tried any other powders. I'm planning on starting with 250 gr. X's, 270 gr. Accu-Bonds and 300 gr. Silvertips (the old, original ones......not Ballistic Silvertips). That's what I have on hand at the moment. Any loads or tips would be gratefully accepted.

Strut , despite a few smart aleck naysayers , the Weatherby is a great cartridge for a handloader .

My favorite load is 94 gr of Ramshot Hunter under the 260 gr Accubond , for 3000 fps at the muzzle ( fireformed W/W H&H cases). The usual precautions apply , work up from below , etc.

I think you will find that H4350 is the best variety of 4350 as it has the short cut type grains . Full power loads with the slow powders will mostly be compressed . Fireformed cases have a couple of grains less powder capacity than the factory Weatherby cases .

There is quite a lot of data on this site , go to the home page , click on the reloading pages........

Also , run a search on the big bore board , there have been some good discusions in the past.

Strut I haven't done a whole bunch of shooting with my 375 Wby yet but I can pass on what I have so far.Like sudsslinger I am using fireformed Win cases.I was using 270 Hornady bullets and a surplus powder for the fireform loads. The surplus powder I was using is a little faster than IMR 4350.I was getting 2in groups @ 200yds with fireform loads I am just starting to work with the 270 gr TSX bullet and IMR 4350. H4350 SC may be even better. so far results with the TSX look promising.

I have been loading for the 375wby for 4 years now.It seems to out perform the H&H by 150 to 200 FPS with equal wieght bullets but I dought that matters much as far as its affect on game. Its an easy round to load for though as the 4350's seem to be made for it and the 300gr bullets.Try 82gr H4350 as a starting load with 300gr nos/par.Also try H4831sc,82gr to start, and the 350gr woodleighs.I worked up from these loads to 89gr in each then picked the most accurate load in each.Never saw any preasure sighns but when the groups began to open up I stopped. The best loads in my rifle were 87gr H4350 and the 300gr nos/par for 2750fps and 1" groups and 88gr H4831sc with the 350gr woodleigh PP for 2530fps and .75in. groups.Win H&H cases fireformed to 375wby and Fed 215 primers.
Good luck with your load development and I sure hope this helps.

BNagel : .375 WeM / ZKK 602 Brno (from .375 H&H)

350-gr Woodleigh Lee-crimped @ cannelure / Remington brass (fire-formed from H&H) trimmed to 2.810"/ 77-gr W760 / CCI 250 / 2400 fps / OAL 3.585"

350-gr RHINO "soft" Lee-crimped @ 2nd cannelure / WW brass (fire-formed from H&H) trimmed to 2.810"/ 76-gr W760 / CCI 250 / 2400 fps / OAL 3.680"

380-gr RHINO "soft" Lee-crimped @ cannelure / WW brass (fire-formed from H&H) trimmed to 2.810" / 75-gr W760 / CCI 250 / 2425 fps / OAL 3.580"

300-gr RHINO "soft" Lee-crimped @ 2nd cannelure / Weatherby brass (once-fired) / 88-gr H4831SC / CCI 250 / 2540 fps / OAL 3.680"

300-gr BARNES solid Lee-crimped @ cannelure / Weatherby brass / 87-gr H4831SC / GM215M / 2550 fps / OAL 3.575"

I also have data for BARNES-X (300, 235-gr) + SIERRA (300, 250-gr) + HORNADY (300, 270-gr) and variations of above with other posders, brass, primers, etc. Some have higher speeds, but most were developed to "obey" my PH's advice concerning maintaining 2400 fps for best performance per local (RSA) experience. (The list includes BELL brass, A-Square brass (soft!!!!!!), NORMA brass, and so on.) I'd rather fax or snail mail it should you have further interest.

Barry
