I'm delighted with a load for my .35 Whelen. It's a 225 grain Nosler partition pushed by 59 grains RL-15 (see Nosler's data) and lighted by a CCI LR primer in a Rem case. Velocity runs 2,700 give or take and accuracy is magnificent. Terminal performance was all one could want with a complete broadside pass thru on a bull elk at 301 yards. Exit hole like a tennis ball and DRT. I think most folks use a heavier bullet in the Whelen....FWIW....the 225 grainer works extremely well. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Wonder how it would perform on Moose? I'll bet pretty good!

I too load the 225 gr bullet in my Whelen, but the TSX. I use 60 gr RL-15 for 2700 fps in a 22" barrel. Proven on moose and elk too.

With 250 Speer or 250 NP I get 2 holes on moose. From 2480 FPS to 2580 FPS really thumps them! kk alaska

I have two rifles I built only because of posts on AR....one the .35 Whelen and the other the 9.3 X 62.....sister cartridges one might say. Neither was oversold.....these are serious "thumpers" for serious hunters. They instill confidence like nothing else I own....great cartridges. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." My 35's have been the least tempermental to reload for. Maybe something to do with the caliber?

I rather doubt that it's caliber related....probably just a coincidence. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Vapo, when I had my 35 Whelen, your load is exactly the one I worked up. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to use it on game, but I loved the caliber!

Vapodog, My wife has a 35 Whelen with a 21 inch bbl. She has numerous one shot kills in Texas and TEN one shot kills in Africa with her little gun. She uses the 250 gr Woodleigh with 59 gr RL#15 and Fed 210 primers, Rem cases. for Texas stuff (mostly Hogs) and in Africa she has used the 225 and 250 gr North Forks with 59gr and 57 gr respectively of the RL#15. Animals ranging is size from Impala to Zebra and Kudu. Wonderful caliber, hits like the hammer of Thor. Good Hunting Tetonka DRSS

I too love a good dose of Rlr 15 for the Whelen. Ive been playing around with swaging my own .35 cal bullets for my Whelen and .358, it is a work in progress, but looks real promising.. I had a load (I dont recall the exact charge) but it is rlr 15 and a 200 gn Hornady and I was getting about 2850 fs and nice tight patterns.. Fabulous round to reload for.. When I was hunting with the Whelen while stationed in Georgia I took a couple of whitetails with this load. Tame, but accurate. 200SRA Powder RL12 58 grains WLR Primer RP 35 Whelen case OAL 3.05 Avg Vel 2570

I like the 225 Grain in the Whelen as well, but I also use 250's once in a while. I use IMR4064 powder and velocities are right at 2750 for the 225 and 2625 for the 250. I now use Accubonds and Ballistic tips, work real well on elk, with the 225 Grain Ballistic tip retaining 206 grains on an elk shot at 225yds. Jerry NRA Benefactor Life Member

I like the 225 gr. Barnes TSX in my .35 Whelen. I use 60.4 gr. of Re15, Remington brass and Winchester WLR primer for 2710 FPS. The load will do .50" for 3 rounds. Two more rounds will open the group to 1.25" as the 23" barrel heats up. The cow elk I shot last December was hit in the short ribs on the left side as she was running off at a slight quartering angle. The bullet passed though exiting betwen the neck and right shoulder. Entrance hole looked to be about .75" and the exit about 1.5", maybe slightly larger. Internal damage was massive and Ms. Elk dropped DRT on the spot at impact. You just cannot ask for any better than that. Paul B.

My 35 Whelen Imp. loves H-380, and 225 Nosler AB's. Shoots just over 5/8" groups @ 100 yards all day long. Extreme Custom Gunsmithing LLC, ecg@wheatstate.com

The 225 grain Nosler Accubond worked well on a Wisconsin black bear and 8 point whitetail buck this year. The .35 Whelen is built on a VZ-24 and the load is right out of the Nosler Book. Both animals were taken with one shot.
