If you want to go lightweight, I'm using Nosler BT 55 grains over a lot of Varget for 4050 fps out of a 24" tube in a Remington CDL. Explosive performance on all critters that get hit with this load

Hey Tanzan Nothing like ressurecting a 5 year old thread that hasn't seen the light of day in 2 -1/2 years! Okay just ribbing ya but 5 years ago on this thread I posted about my sons .243 and we have since re barreled the rifle. I've not used Reloader 17 in my sons .243 yet but I have been working up loads with it in most cartridges that i use IMR-4350 in. Have had good results in my youngest sons 257 Roberts so far and am getting close in a .284 Win also. What weight E tip are you using? I don't remember if they are 90 or 100 grain.... If I were you I wouldn't hesitate to try Reloader 17 in your .243, then post some results. Alliant powder told me to use IMR-4350 load data for RL-17 loads. Good luck with your rifle. Right now my sons rifle is shooting 2 loads very well 43 grains IMR 4350 and 85 grain Sierra HPBT going 3250 fps and 41.5 grains IMR 4350 with a 90 grain Speer Deep Shock going 3157fps. Both loads shoot less than 3/4" and the lighter bullets print an inch above the 90 grainers.

The Nosler E-tip is 90 grains. However, it is so long that I suspect that the 10" twist in our Win70 Compact Featherweight will not stabilize the bullets. Stability factor is right around 1.0, but Nosler doesn't have a warning about twists for this bullet. I hope to get some testing done in the next couple of weeks. The Barnes 80 gn. TTSX are within spec on stability factors. We'll see what happens. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.

Update on Nosler 90 gn E-tip: It appears to be stable in a 10" twist. Tested over 42-44 grains R-17. While we are still testing loads and breaking in the barrel, 43.5 grains of Rel-17, if my memory serves (hard copy unabvailable as I write), turned in a .9" group, so there will be more testing in the 43.5-44.5 grain range. The Barnes 80 grain TTSX also turned in a .9" group with 45.1 grains Rel - 17. We may test up to 46.5 grains of 46.5 in the summer. +-+-+-+-+-+-+ "A well-rounded hunting battery might include: 500 AccRel Nyati, 416 Rigby or 416 Ruger, 375Ruger or 338WM, 308 or 270, 243, 223" -- Conserving creation, hunting the harvest.
