You're gonna' hate this, but: whatever Federal Cartridge Company is putting in its Premium ammunition, with either 300g or 270g.

In Zimbabwe on buffalo and plainsgame and in Alaska on 60+" moose; Max book loads of R-15. Barnes 300g TSX. Fed mag primers. Winchester or Remington cases.

Accurate. Terminally sufficient. There is no down side, there is no need for additional anything.

So far, 80.0 gr. of H4350 and a Sierra 300gr. SGK work great for "plinking". And 80.0 gr. of H4350 and either of the 300gr. Horn. IL RN's group around 1.25" too. I suppose 80.0 gr. of H4350 and the 300gr. Partition are a close second. And 80.0 gr. of H4350 and the 260gr. Accubond work great and often put two rounds touching.

I'd love to say I've found as much success in other loads, but 80.0gr. just seems to be a real sweet spot for my Montana '99. I didn't have as much consistency with 76.0, and 78.0 just felt a bit soft.

Sierra lists 81.5gr. of H4350 as max load with the 300 SGK. I've worked up to 80.0 with those bullets and pressure signs appear negligable. I find no appreciable differences whether I'm using a 300gr. Partition or SGK. I just tested on a warmish day (88 degrees) with no abnormal pressure signs.

To be honest, if I could get the same accuracy with less velocity (2,550 consistently with the 300's, and about the same with the 260's) I'd do it. I don't need that degree of horsepower...yet. I'd happily settle on a 260 AB at 2400 for Deer hunting... Guess I'll keep on plugging along.

Regards,

Robert

270 gr TSX over 74 gr REL-15 and CCI 200 primers. Accurate, acceptable recoil, and proven on plains game with one shot kills up to gemsbok and zebra.

tradewinds-

I am afraid I am not familiar with the above referenced bullet. Would you mind pointing me in that direction?

GS Customs are made in Africa. Lots of info here and some is quite entertaining.

Just picked up some AA5744 to load up some Hornady 220 gr flat nosed bullets for plinking/whitetails.

GS Custom are really good bullets, some do not like them because you shot them at a High Velocity. I myself like high velocity. Last year we also used 320 Gr. GS Custom HV Softs in my 404 Jeffery at a pretty high Velocity for a 404. I would have to look it up but i think it is also around 2700 fps. Hammered ths shit out of a Buffalo.

I was going to work up a load for the 416 Rigby we will be taking this year to Tanzania but i do not think i will have time, so we will use factyory ammo thumbdown

Same load for me
I get real high velocity and exceptional accuracy with max loads of Reloader 15 and 300 grain TSX.

With 300 grain, lead core softs, I trust 67 grains of IMR 4064. Remington magnum primers. With 300 grain solids I use 66 grains of Reloder 15.

Was running 77gr of N550 under a 270gr TSX for a while. However this rifle really likes 69.2 of Varget under a Hornady 300gr RN. Like 5 in the Low .3's.

Yes it's cocked, and it has bullets too!!!

68 grains of IMR 4064 with any bullet weight up to 300 grains works great in my double.

Try 71.0 grains of RL-15 with either the Sierra 250 grain Game King or the Swift 250 grain A-Frame bullet. Both shoot < 1MOA in my left-hand custom rifle built on a Montana Rifle Action receiver with a 24" McGowan barrel.
