I have a remington model 7 stainless synthetic in 7mm-08 with 20 inch barrel. I am interested in loading the Hornady 139 SST to max velocity for deer. Anyone have any accurate loads in this lenght barrel? Reccomend a source for this data?
Thanks [Cool]

Well, the Hornady manual comes to mind as a source. My 7mm-08 is an 18.5" barreled Rem 788. Quite an accurate little rifle, if a little heavy. Try 49 gr of H414. This is a pretty hot load, so the usual back off, work up warnings apply. Oddly enough, the single most accurate load I've ever found for this rifle is Remington factory 140 gr ammo. Not the premium stuff either, just the regular stuff. But the H414 load comes close in my rifle. - Dan

My load for the 139 Hornady SP is 42 Grs RL15 which is very accurate from the 22" barrel of my Sako - it could well work in your shorter 18.5". Certainly you will want to go with one of the faster powders recommended for the 7-08 to achieve most complete burning of the powder charge in your rifle barrel. I note Sierra, 4th Edition, recommends WW 748 for accuracy loads and IMR 4064 for a hunting load. Other faster powders for the 139/140 bullet weight are IMR 4895 and Varget.

Sparrow

I have loaded 4 at least 6 of these rifles such as yours. 748 w/Sierra or Hornady/Nosler always shoots 3/4 or less.

The savage 11 in 7mm-08 I have, shoots great with 39 grains of R-15 140gr nos. partitions. When i do things right I get 5 shots to touch @100 yds.

I have a 788 in 7-08, 18 1/2inch barrel, I use WW-760 139gr Interlock and Rem 9 1/2 M primers. I'm close enough to a max load that I'd rather not talk weight however it's very safe in my rifle and it chronos 2,850fps on repeated trips to the range, it shoots 3/4 inch groups till it's boring . I have a Rem Mountain Rifle in 7-08 on the other hand that won't shoot for beans with WW760. I load a 145 gr Speer in it with enough Varget for 2,800fps give or take.---Shoot Safe---montdoug

I have a Browning A-Bolt w/ a 20" barrel. Best load I found was 40.3 gr IMR3031, 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, Remington brass and Federal 210M primers.

My M700 Mtn Rifle likes 44.0 grs. W748 using a 140 gr. NBT or Nosler's old Solid Base bullets. 1.1" avg. for three shot groups @ 2860 fps mv chrono.

I've used IMR4064 behind Speer's 130 and 145 grain bullets, and Hornady's 154 grain Interlock with good results in my 18.5 inch barreled Model Seven in 7mm-08...
