The H&H is common, popular, and works.

When my ammo didn't make the trip to africa there was H&H stuff in camp.

I've sucessfully used my H&H on buffalo, plainsgame, Alaska moose and bear. it is sufficient and efficient.

Come October I'll file my own report on the anticipated boring efficiency of the H&H on a Maine bull moose.

Now, if I can just decide how to load the damned thing!

Why mess with a proven winner:

Enough power for a DGR
Relatively mild recoil
Flexible with 235 to 350gr bullet loadings
Ammo availability everywhere
Can be very accurate in the right rifle
Available in just about every brand of rifle made
Tradition

the ruger is the more modern design, in affordable rifles, and is available for any texas hunter.

i aint a luditte.
EVERY real performance related attribute, other than headspacing on the belt, is "better" in the ruger.. and if 300gr at 2500 is "all you need" then you can even load the ruger to lower pressure than the HH, as the case is larger in capacity.

show me a NEW $750 CRF 375HH that isn't a muched up 798 ... just ONE

I can't answer that... I love the caliber and have customs in H&H, Ruger, RUM and a "soon to be" in the Weatherby chambering. Redundant? Of course, but why not?

My vote is for the Ruger. The Ruger African is a great rifle and a great cartridge although I like the 416 Ruger Alaskan better.

Sentimentally I'd say H&H but from the very real standpoint of modern affordable rifles and ammo as well as case efficiency as mentioned above...........it's 375Ruger!

I really like the H&H. I have always owned one most likley always will. But I will have a Ultra before long-- just because. If I had to buy one tomorrow-- I think a Ruger would be on the short list.

I like the 375 Ruger cartridge, but if I were buying a rifle chambered for it, I would lean toward a Winchester model 70 and only because I don't ever expect to have the cash to buy and convert a Colt-Sauer to a 375 Ruger.

I voted 375 Ruger because you can get a decent rifle for $800 new and save enough money over the H&H to buy good optics for it.

Sentimentality and nostalgia don't kill animals -- bullets do. The truth of the matter is that the 375 Ruger will do everything the 375 H&H will but in a shorter, lighter, less expensive rifle and that appeals to an awful lot of regular folks.

The H&H is available in more rifles and has more universal ammo availability. The Ruger does not need a magnum action, so good rifles chambered for it are cheaper. Ballistically they are twins. I bought the H&H because I like the Winchester Safari Express. But I also like the idea of rebarreling a mannlicher stocked Husqvarna 1640 or Brno 21 to .375 Ruger, it would be a svelte, easy carrying and beautiful all purpose rifle.

Its a toss up on the cartridges, I just have not had good luck with Rugers . Hence a simple choice for me :

I have to go with the 375 H&H, but only because I have about 2000 plus rounds of loaded ammo and another 500 new cases..other than that and a touch of nostalgia, I would opt for the 375 Ruger, as its simply a better designed round and the balistic twin of the .375 but on a shorter action..The case is a marvelous case. The new "Hawkeye African" is the finest commercial bolt rifle out to day and certainly the best thing since sliced white bread.

I guess I really need to get my hands on a Hawkeye African and a Mod 70 Safari....and just see which one feels better.

375 Ruger for me...It's the NEW KING of the .375's, after all....

I never fired a Ruger that had decent accuracy. My.375 H&H shoots sub MOA groups with North Fork 300 grain bullets.

1/2 inch of case length doesn't mean a thing. Trying to find .375 Ruger ammo in Zimbabwe means a lot.

My Model 70 fits me perfectly, and recoils a lot less, as I feel it, than my .300 Magnum.

Last trip I loaded my ammo to about 50 fps below factory. A solid passed through both shoulders of a big Zambezi Valley Bull elephant and a soft point did a bang-flop on a bull buffalo. What more could you want?

I could want you to fire more Rugers than that one Mini-14 with open sights that you tried back in 1990.

My 375 RUger shoots similarly to RIP's 416. SO does my Ruger 7MM and about a dozen other Rugers I've loaded for.

I chose the H&H.
Because I already have one and it does everything I ask of it.
It helps that I am using BBW#13 solids and matching NonCons.

I go with the 375 H&H and I feel that just a few years down the road the H&H will still be going like a Timex Watch or the EverReady Bunny.

The Ruger, like a lot of the other new cartridges on the market will slowly fade into history, as none of them offer any real advantage over existing cartridges, and in many places cartridge availability is a real consideration. JMO.

I've had both, reloaded for both and killed stuff with both. I like the 375 Ruger best. The case is a big improvement, IMHO, and I love my Hawkeye African.
