I spoke with Jamison's earlier this year and they hoped for a run of .505 Gibbs brass sometime in May if they got caught up on their military contracts.

Might be worth a call to them to check on the status. I believe Neal at www.custombrassandbullets.com was aware of this as well.

Norma have just finished a big run of 505 brass whilst I was there. They nickle plate it for their own African PH loads, but sell plain brass to reloaders. Not the cheepest brass, but I prefer it in the 9,3 to just about any other on the market.

I think that's factory Norma ammo and factory crimp.

Steve, if you want that style of crimp just buy a pair of Lineman's Wirecutters. They look like a regular pair of pliers, but have 1/2" wide jaws, and a notched area behind the serrated jaws that is shaped like a football that serves to cut wire. Just take the dremel tool and cut out that area to a circular shape about 3/8" round and blunt on the edge. It will let you make the 1/8-circle segmented crimps every 90-degrees. For me, it lets me crimp on the cannelure if I wish to seat deeper to fit a magazine box. It also eliminates the potential for crushed case mouths seating and crimping in one step.

...not trying to steal your thread, but when I bought my Gibbs, Jamison brass was recommended, and I purchased 100 pieces.

Using 10 pieces for load developement, they have now been thru the rifle eight times and there has been no need to trim them, and the primer pockets are still snug. However, I don't load 'em HOT. 600gr Woodleighs @ 2185fps on average. Perhaps the brass would need some attention if I loaded 'em up to "max blast"!

Jamison brass is the only brand I've used, so I can't comment on any of the other manufacturer's product.

Had the Gibbs out this morning. What a fun rifle to shoot. Was shooting 106-108 grain of RL15 behind 600 grain Woody solids and getting 2115 to 2165 fps. Recoil is very manageable. I am glad though that I had it double cross bolted, bedded all the way and front and rear pillars installed. You know the case is big when you can damn near fit a .458 Win Mag case inside the Gibbs brass.

Yes, the gunsmith had it until last Sunday. Accuracy was good. At 25 yards, which is as far I need to be worried about , it will put three shots into a clover leaf dead center off of sticks with open sights. Honestly, recoil feels less to me than my .500 NE which is heavier but is shooting a 570 grain bullet at 2050 fps. I had fifteen or so rounds through it and need to get it out another couple of times to ensure everything is functioning fine.

So far, so good.

It is a CZ550 from their Custom Shop. I had it checked for feeding and function before I bought it. The only work I have had done to it is the bedding, cross bolts and pillars. Holds three down and one up the spout. I also bought a laminated stock for it and had it bedded, cross bolted and pillared to use with it too. The walnut stock has a mercury tube, the laminated does not. I have good luck with RL15 and I believe that it keeps recoil down. The only downside is that I have to use some dacron filler in the cases since they are so large.

You might get with Rich and see if he'll give you the formula he used with V-160 to get 2600 FPS in his .505 CZ.

I am a glutton for punishment, but not that much punishment! Need to add about six pounds to the rifle before I try that. I am thinking a 600 grain bullet at 2100 to 2200 fps is going to be just fine.
