Yesterday I ordered the reamer for a .416 WSM. A buddy of mine had a Mod. 70 in .300 WSM that he didn't like. (I don't blame him, I have never found a WSM that I liked) So we started looking for something to turn it into. We really wanted something that would be possible to hunt DG with. I know this has been done before, the .416 WSM, so any tips would be appreciated. According to "Quick Load" we will be able to get 2350 to 2400 fps. from a 22" barrel with 350 gr. bullets. My hope is that it is more accurate than the normal WSM's. I think from what I have read that the .325 WSM is better than the .300 WSM. Almost anything would have been better than both of the .270 WSM's I once owned. I'm hoping bigger is better. We are using a Douglas XX barrel with a 1-12 twist. I am going to contour the barrel to a #5 and use the Winchester stock. I'll post the progress as we go along. Reamer delivery time is 4 weeks

Why not just go with the 416 Ruger and have factory ammo available if you need it?

Because "Ruger" is not spelled with a "W"!

Winchester! Big Grin

Tapper you should be able with a 22 inch barrel to top over 2400 with a 350.

My 416 B&M is capable of 2400 with 350s with an 18 inch barrel. The B&M case is a RUM cut, trimmed to 2.24 inches, a tad longer.

The Ruger won't fit into the short action. I have one in .375.

Why would I want to buy factory ammo? I do this for fun! I don't like shopping....Tom

Yesterday we Test Fired my new Win 70 in .416 WSM. I'm quite happy with the results. Tom re-barreled my .300 WSM to .416 WSM. The Crony showed 2300 fps with a 350 grain Speer Bullet. I had loaded 12 rounds with H335, 4 @ 60.0, 4 @ 62.0, & 4 @ 64.0. 60 grs gave us 2150 fps and 64.0 grs avg right @ 2300 fps. The Rifle is pleasant to shoot for a .416 and we got sub MOA @ 50 yds. I have some 400 gr loads to try next. I will post the results when available. Big Grin

Things didn't go quite so well today. I put a different scope on using Warne Rings on Leupold Mounts. My groups really opened up. I will be getting Leupold Rings and re testing in the near future. Confused
