Clint,

.458 AR is a wonderful cartridge! I use a 435 gr cast FPGC projectile lubed with Carnauba Red with 50.0 gr of AA 5744. Getting abt 1 MOA with it.

Wait until you see its performance on game. Amazing!

The medium game hunting load is a 425 gr Rhino solid shank bonded core bullet behind 85 gr H335 ignited by FED 215s. On Quality Cartridge cases it gave m 2400 fps.

Rifle shot a clover leaf at sight-in in RSA.

Knocked a Blue Wildebeast off its feet at abt 60 yards and he only twitched a little. Hit an Eland at 186 yards (lasered) quartering away. Bullet went in behind the left leg, across the chest and out the right shoulder. The fella stumbled and was down.

Jeffe outdid himself with this design!

Good hunting (of Stegasaurus, or whatever).

due to the Dr. not wanting me to drive to the hoot an shoot i went to the range Saturday. spent 5hr a shot 53rds from bench and offhand got it sighted in and got a good start smoothing out the inside of the barrel. the groups got smaller the more i shot and cleaned. the last was just over a 1" at 50yds and got a 3" at 200yds. one of the highlights of the day was try a new to me boolit and getting good groups(now i have to order a mould) also found out the new scope i got a few years ago will not hold poa. glad i had a backup to use! this gun is a blast to shoot and sure gets the other shooters attention. one guy was shooting a 4"rock with his .223 on the 100yds berm ask if i could hit it well the first shot we had gravel! Having to much fun Clint

just back form the range tried a new load 405 rem/75 /h4895/fed lrmag shot 3 at 50yds into a .263 group recoil was not bad but loud report the 4th shot shredded a water jug the 5th one made more gravel. any idea of the speed of this load? the other load i used was 410 cast/45/aa5744/ fed lrmag this load shot into 1.250" think with a little work this boolit will shot better! will have to dig out the crony Clint

Clint,

Sounds like it is going REALLY well Wink The .458 AR is like that ... lovely.

I make my 435's cast bullets in wheel weights from a Ballisti-Cast 1421 LFNGC mold lubed with Carnauba Red.

Works well.

The .458 AR also performs well with bullets cast with the 500 gr Lee .458 gas checked mold.

The 425 gr Rhino at 2400 fps really is a medium load. Recoil is very nice but the effect of game smaller than Cape Buffalo is awesome. I'd go to a 500 Woodleigh for the big stuff.
