I wanted to tip you all off to a couple of sources of "jugs" to blast at the range.

If you have a local Dairy Queen, talk to the manager. They get the oil they use in their fryers in resealable five gallon plastic jugs. Even a modest Dairy Queen will usually go through four of five of these a week. They are great to blast and at least here, they will give them to free. In fact, sometimes they drop them off for me at work!

Another great source for blasting material is you local Burger King. They get their pickles in five gallon plastic buckets and they have been selling them to us for $1 each. These are the best for shooting because they are rigid and when you blast one with a .505 or a .500 Jeffery, they really explode. It's awesome! Just fill them all the way full with water, tap the lid back on tight with a rubber mallet. If you want some added effect, put some red food coloring in the water and tape the lids on really tight with some masking tape. The first time we did this at the range, my buddy was shooting his .505 Gibbs. We were shooting to the north and the wind was blowing from the north. The water went at least 20 feet in the air where the wind caught it, blew it back and soaked us. We just looked at each other and started to laugh like hell. Big bore smackdowns, ain't they great!!

Now that sounds like fun!

I love smacking stuff with a big bore, whether it be coffee cans or wild hogs.

The display of raw power is very amusing!

I got plenty of the other. The real question remains: water or gasoline?

A Woodleigh 570 gr soft makes a perfect mushroom into water jugs---i just can't recall if it was 13 or 15 of them that it finally took lined up to catch it.

Tannnerite is fun --launched a chunk of railroad iron way, way skyward with a jar of it and a 375.

Tigger,

Diesel! Cheaper than gasoline, makes more black smoke, and puts off more heat.

When I first read this thread I was gonna suggest certain 4 legged animals with whiskers that often like to play with string or feathers, but was afraid of getting censored if I actually mentioned it.

Shooting things with big bores is certainly more fun than whacking them with Gallagher's hammer!!
