Any suggestions for a 458 Lott practice load? I have used Hornady 225 grain spitzers behind 5744 powder for my 375 HH. Looking for a similar bullet/powder combination for the 458 Lott. Any suggestions welcome.

If you practice with a Lott that kicks like a 308,you might as well use the 308 instead.Learning to shoot the lott,is much learning to cope with reality and not make belief.

Thank you for the comment BTW I have taken my Lott on 2 Safaris and have shot several heads of dangerous game with it. I do routinely practice with 500 grain Woodleigh soft and solids. Am looking for a lighter and less expensive proposition that's all.

get a crate of rem 405s and a bucket of 5744, or 3031, or any powder that works well in the WINMAG helps if you have a chrono For sighting practice, your irons will be close to on if you run 405s about what speed your full house loads run in. I use IMR4320 powder in my 458 Lott for all my shooting with it. I can down load it or take it to the max with this power.

H4895 is another great choice for the Lott, from reduced recoil loads all the way to the Big Ones. 65grains of H4895 under a 400gr bullet will yield about 2000fps. Enough thump to practice "recoil followup" but not punishing for volume shooting. 20grains of Unique or Universal Clays under a 350cast bullet will yield about 1400fps (similar to the mightly .454Casull!) and feels about like shooting a .22LR.

Got Hornaday factory loads for about $71.00 a box recently from Midways. Thought that was pretty reasonable.

Blackbearhunter- looks like a passing grade on the offhand paper plate test at 75yrds. GOOD for YOU! I so much prefer seeing guys post pics who can shoot rather than the Videos of those who cant.-Rob Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers to do incredibly stupid things- AH (1941)- Harry Reid (aka Smeagle) 2012 Nothing Up my sleeves but never without a plan and never ever without a surprise!

When it comes to shooting, one can post pictures or say everything of anything, but it's the VIDEO that tells the TRUTH. Hey Robgunguilder,I bet you can't hit a paper plate offhand at ANY yards.

Shootaway, RGB definitely does NOT! need me to speak up for him; but you are barking up the wrong tree here buddy. He has more shoulder-fired cannons and howitzers than you have teeth left. I defer to his shooting record. Rich Buff Killer
