A while ago some of you might rember me posting about the Rem 700 375 H&H that I had problems with. I bought the gun a year ago used, but new in the box from a friends father. I shot it with the iron sights and put it away. I am planning on going back to Tanzania in 2007 so I got a Leupods 1.75X6 and mounted it in QD mounts. I could not adjust the scope enough to bore sight it. I took all apart, cleaned, lapped rings and tried again. NO GOOD !! I shot it just to see and sure enough the scope was adjusted all the way left and I was still shooting right by 3 inches at 50 yards!! I sent the scope to Leupold, it came back with a clean bill of health. Then, as a friend suggested, I looked at the factory holes in the reciever. I found the front to be 1.8 mm off from the rear. Unable to detect with my eye without a steel straight edge and level. I sent the gun back to Remm custom shop. They called about 1 month later to tell me the gun was fixed. They braised over the old holes and retapped new ones slightly forward and re polished and re blued the reciever. The Remm guy on the phone told me the gun was in great shape for how old it was. I told him how I got it used, but new in the box. I asked how old it was. He typed int a computer and told me the date.....IT WAS MY BIRTHDATE, DAY AND YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT ARE THE CHANCES???? I got the gun back on wednesday. I mounted the scope and bore sighted it without a problem. I loaded up 20 light sight in test rounds and I will see if it is OK some time this week.

What are the odds of THAT? Combined with the fact that you got it from a friend's father and its an absolutely great caliber, you should keep (and use) that baby for a life time. Nice score--to mangle a truism, I'll take serindipity over good planning anytime! Jay Kolbe

If the 1.75-6x will still not zero when you shoot it, try a Leupold 1.5-5. I think they have a more adjustment than the 1.75x6. "On your Birthday".... Weird... Twilight Zone material. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY
