Zimbi Books of South Africa has just released my friend and South African big bore expert Pierre van der Walt’s book, “Big Bore Cartridge Load Data Collection.†It has data for loading 31 major big bore cartridges, from the 9.3x62mm Mauser to the .585 Nyati, using 14 brands of propellents available in Australia, Europe, Scandinavia, South Africa and the United States. The price is $42.50 US, plus $11 surface or $22 airmail shipping charges. Nothing like it is available anywhere else.

Is their web site secure enough to send a cc# ?? Has anyone bought anything from this company? I am very interested in 4 copies, but not interested if it isn't a secure transaction.

Their site is not secure, denoted by https. There is the option of bank transfer with info on site beside cc info.
Probably the best bet.
Looks like a good book to get though.

If you have that much to fight for, then you should be fighting. The sentiment that modern day ordinary Canadians do not need firearms for protection is pleasant but unrealistic. To discourage responsible deserving Canadians from possessing firearms for lawful self-defence and other legitimate purposes is to risk sacrificing them at the altar of political correctness."

I'm a little apprehensive about giving out personal info to an unsecure website.
Is there any other way to get a copy of this book?

Zimbi Books is a relatively new business owned by a husband and wife I've known for at least ten years. I don't know whether their site is secure, but I will find out.

In the meantime, bank transfers can be made to:

Account Holder: Zimbi Books
Bank: ABSA Bank
International Swift Code: ABSA ZA JJ
Account Number: 4059355345

The other option is to send credit card information by fax. I have asked them if that is acceptable and am awaiting a reply.

Looks like a great book, please post what you find out about best manner to securely pay. As a relatively new big bore reloader I have been very frustrated by the lack of good information on reloads. This appears to be a good reference book.

Here is what my friends at Zimbi Books said:

"I have been trading this way for almost three years and have had no problems to date as I know the chaps from my server personally, but having said this, I am going to look at setting up PayPal or securing my site, first thing on Monday morning. In the meantime, if anybody would like to send their credit card info to me via fax, they can do so on the following number: +27 12 3462326. It is only Mario and I that work here and I destroy all credit card info after we have processed orders."

Bill,
Thanks for passing along our concerns.
PayPal should be a piece of cake for him to setup.

It's not his server I'm concerned about (I guess). It's the fact you're sending your personal info to his server unsecured and who can intercept it along the way.

Would a large order be a better idea than single orders. Bill, since you know these folks, could we arrange them to send you the books for distribution and make one payment. This would seem to be an easy way to conduct this business. I placed a huge order for bullets with Gerrard at GS Custom and still have not received them. They said it could take untill the end of April for them to arrive.

It makes sense for the orders to be made to someone in the States, but I don't want to be the one. We need to find someone whose business it is to distribute books. I'll check with my friends at Zimbi Books and ask if they can make an arrangement with a U.S. publisher.

Below is the response from my publisher friend -- Bill Quimby

"I am not sure how long it will take to get a US distributor set up but hopefully I can give you something more concrete later today. If anybody wants to buy a book in the meantime, the best bet is to fax me their orders. The postage is pretty safe from South Africa because we insure all our mail.

"It is almost 8am here now. My internet server's office opens at 9am and I am going to contact them ASAP to secure my website - I think that should make everyone feel a little bit better. Hopefully by the time you wake up tomorrow morning - I should have everything set up."

My friends in South Africa still are searching for a U.S. distributor. In the meantime, here is what they said:

"Regarding the security on my website - there is no quick-fix solution here. These things take time, so all I can suggest in the meantime is clients can e-mail me there credit card info in two separate e-mails or they can fax their orders through, as a few people have already done."
