It depends on your definitions of DG and DGR. IMO, no single-shot is a DGR. George

I am a big single shot guy for targets, varmints and sometimes deer. For true dangerous game I like a pre 64 M70. Join the NRA

If hunting DG with a single shot, be sure to wear your running shoes.

I doubt that a single shot is a good idea for dangerous game, but if I was so inclined, I would use one...I figure if its your turn in the barrel it's going to happen no matter what! If you are planning to use it to shoot Buff at 200 yds plus like some of our members then i say yes its a DG rifle. Hunting Leps over bait it would be fine.If you plan to hunt as most of us do then i say no its not. Very few times are DG stopped with the very first round. They may be dead on their feet after it , but another and another may be needed to stop them before they stop you. Charlie

CW, spends on the time frame that you want to measure from... in the days when the 577 was a heavy medium (black powder days) single shots were the NORMAL heavy rifle for 90% of the folks that killed game (farmers/settlers).. doubles, like today, where the tools of specialized hunters,.... Today, if you take the to the extreme end of range, at 10 yards, you only have time for 1 shot. I've seen #1s run by SOME people that can play a game of the ole in-out as fast as some people can work a bolt. there's NEVER a comparision in second shot times as with a double... Would I take it to whack buff in heavy brush? Not by first choice, but I wouldn't stay in camp because that's all i had to shoot jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? Interesting that it has a 1 in 10" twist barrel. Good choice by Ruger. Hopefully they put the same twist on the RSM. That would be another reason to recommend it over the CZ 14" twist if so.

ALF, The .577-.450 Martini occupies the same niche in Africa as the .44-40 (or .30-30) does here in the U.S. The main reason those rounds accounted for so much game (including DG) is that they were ubiquitous, not that they were the best choice for DG, arrived at by careful evaluation and comparison. Randy720, No one said you couldn't kill DG with a single-shot, only that it is not a DGR. George

The cartridge is adequate, and any single-shot rifle could become dangerous if you bobble the reload at an inopportune moment. Okie John "The 30-06 works. Period." --Finn Aagaard
