Hello friends, I have titled this thread of discussion as "madness" because it somehow is. As you've read I have a 550 Magnum rifle Ceska in 375 H & H caliber Magnum, but I like the large sizes. On the other hand, I will never hunt in Africa, my budget and I may not believe that I never allow it, barely dipper in my country. And that is what will be a "folly", because even a few years I have decided to buy a rifle Ceska equal to that but I have a higher caliber, and the issue is between 416 and 458 Rem Magnum Winchester Magnum. As I have said is a whim, a pure pleasure to shoot with a large caliber (I like the 416 Rigby but that ammunition is more expensive than those that I mentioned earlier). Between 416 and RM 458 WM what big difference?, Setback, energy of impact, speed and price of ammunition, or what is happening you, your expert opinion is for me a great reference. On the other hand, I accept criticism of my "madness".

Gratitude,

Oscar.

If you reload or handload, get the .458 caliber and load it somewhat down

If it were I, I would get a CZ in 375 H&H. Big enough to play with and good enough for Africa if hopefully you get there someday.

I have the CZ 550 American Safari 458 Lott. I also have a 416 & a 375 and a 338 RUM. I wouldn't call it madness.

I started off with a 375 H&H.

Thank you for your answers, I think if the madness, because I believe that I will never go to Africa to hunt, but I have great passion for these cartridges (actually I'd love a 577 Nitro Express double the Express 3, "but we do not have money enough to buy it), so my choice would be a Ceska 550 caliber Magnum at 458 or 416 WM RM, simply by whim, as I have said I am in love with these large sizes. But what I would buy just around about four years, when their willingness to my wife because she is angry since he bought the 375. jejejeje.

Well there's your problem. Smiler

No, really, I got the .458WM, because I believed it would be much more available here in rifles and ammo.

But I was prepared to buy anything that came up that was reasonable. Even a CZ at a pinch.

The first thing was a M70 in .458WM second hand,
just the thing for informal plinking. Had no trouble getting ammo or cases and projectiles.

And it gives no end of discussion meterial on AR.

I don't know how it is in Spain, but in the US .416 ammunition is generally expensive compared to .458 WM. So I would also likely go with the .458, but I would only accept one which has two crossbolts on the stock and one which is heavy enough to tame the recoil. (I won't likely be hunting in Africa myself.)

Definitely cheaper to feed the .458 win mag than the .416 -- at least that is what I have found.

I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER GO TO AFRICA, WENT IN 06 AND DREAMING OF GOING AGAIN. SHOT CAPE BUFF WITH 375 HH AND HE WENT ALL OF 12 YARDS AFTER SHOT WITH 300 NF SOFT.

A PERSON SHOULD CONCENTRATE MORE ON SHOT PLACEMENT THEN HOW BIG OF A RIFLE THEY CAN SHOOT. I HAVE 470 NE, NEW 450/400 HEYM NEVER FIRED YET, 416 REMY ON MONTANA ACTION WITH ACCURATE INNOVATIONS STOCK AND 375 HH CZ WITH BROCKMAN STOCK. IF I WOULD DO A 1 GUN SAFARI I WOULD USE EITHER 375 OR 416. JUST PRACTICE SHOOTING FROM STICKS

If the end is a whim, so I think in the 458 WM as a candidate to be acquired by me, I have a pod and I love this cartridge, is large diameter and gives me a feeling of power and security very pleasant, but as I have said within about four years, when passing the anger to my wife. I look with the rifle, pick it up some day and shoot a few rounds I'm happy. As I think, I'm happy in my madness. There are others who spend their money on harmful vices, I do not smoke, do not drink (well, now in a summer beer) and my only hobby are the weapons and the gym. Thank you for your responses and good hunting.

Sincerely,

Oscar.

Oscar,

Your wife must be very angry if it will take her four years to recover from your .375 purchase. Wink

I'm not a big bore collector, but I own a .375 H&H and have shot the .458 WM quite a bit and find it not at all unpleasant to shoot.

It will work extremely well on wild boars. I would go to the .458 Win. Then, someday, if you go to Africa, you will already have the rifles you need for anything that walks.

And if you are buying factory ammunition, it will be cheaper to shoot than the Rigby.

Thanks and a greeting,
