Trying to decide what factory ammo and/or bullets for handloading to go with. I have a nib mod 70 in 416 rem mag that I'd like to use for everything from deer, elk, moose and bear all the way up to buffalo some day. What's everyones thoughts?

350-grain TSX or TTSX. Good for deer at 300 yards or buffalo at close range. Use the Speer 350-grainers for less demanding shooting/killing. Rip ...

Factory: Federal premium 400 grain TBBC. Swift's 400 grain A frame load. (or the remington one) Barnes 400 grain TSX load. Bullets: A frame, TSX, TBBC. 400 grain. I've shot a lot of animals with a .416, and never felt that a lower weight bullet at higher velocity would do any better. You won't be making cross canyon shots with it, but that's kind of the point. There are more efficient choices than the .416 for North America, but nothing will work "better" if you can handle it with accuracy.

The 400gr Nosler Partition is a bullet I see very little written about but I have had good experiences with it. The partition is far forward making it a deep penetrator for bigger animals, it is cheap and shoot subMOA in my Win 70 and in my wife's 416 Rigby.

I agree; shot a ton of stuff with my .416 and 400 A Frames. I don't see the point in bullets less than 350 grains.

I'm bidding on some 400gr tsx right now, not too sure if I'm set on them or not though. I prefer a jacketed bullet

That's what I have for my 416 in my rifle they both shoot to the same point of aim.

My .416 Rem. really isn't very picky, but it likes the 400 grain Federal Premium Swift A Frames. Have used TBBC, Barnes, Noslers and Woodleigh's too. All shot well in my rifle and all resulted in dead buffalo (other than the Barnes, which I have not used on buffalo after I had one deviate badly on a large whitetail). Noslers are not my favorite however. Swift A Frames are. They work great and I've stopped looking for better.
