Too heavy for caliber across the board. I don't get it. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

The heavy for caliber theory was promoted by Kevin Robertson and adopted by Norma. It is a more widely accepted theory of cartridge performance enhancement among African PHs than the American (i.e., Roy Weatherby) theory of a lighter bullet going faster. But it's your hunt, so take the ammo that you feel comfortable with.

There may be some merit to the theory....... _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

There is only going to be so much energy packed into a cartridge case. Hence lighter bullets go faster, etc. For the same energy of both bullets, heavier bullets have higher sectional density and hence, on paper, have greater penetration even though the velocity is smaller. Heavy bullets giving greater penetration is not a new concept. Taylor talked about it and I'm sure he wasn't the first. Kind of like sex, everyone thinks they invented it! While others may argue about it, Norma moves on, in the correct direction. ------------------------------- Will Stewart / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. If the ammo really is destined to be used by PH's, then one could assume it would be used at rock throwing distances. In that case nobody cares about performance at 200 meters. But one would be interested in maximizing clout at the 15 meter range. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

Heavy for caliber bullets just plain works for close encounters of the personal kind. Not only do these bullets provide greater penetration they also provide much greater stopping power. 465H&H

Yep! Copied from Norma's site.

Did anyone notice the velocities they are advertising with the Lott ? 2100fps with the standard 500 gr bullets. There is a general belief among some serious, highly experienced, African PH's that those velocities work best. I certainly plan on duplicating their 375 H&H load with the 350 Woodleigh bullet at 2300 fps in the new Ruger 375 for my use during this next bear season. Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship Phil Shoemaker Alaska Master guide FAA Master pilot NRA Benefactor www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com

Can your avg. pro-hunter actually afford this stuff? What you have here is Hollywood starlet GUCCIMO! They also load Weatherby ammo.

These larger grain bullets will result in greater recoil, unless they load down the velocity. I couldn't figure out how to use their ballistic table.....are loading these with less velocity to keep the recoil down? ______________________________ "Are you gonna pull them pistols,...or whistle Dixie??" I have a magazine that lists an even heavier bullet from Normas PH-line, a 380 grain bullet at 670 metres per second, Aouch!

I saw on the Rhino page that the Swedish importer loads the 380 grain bullet in the 375 H&H at ca 1090 Swedish crown for 20 rounds, and that aint a bad price i think for such an big game stopper load. Interessting concept of the ammo, get the KO factor and ammo out where it belongs, in the game at close range. I hope the .450 NE 3.25 inch will be a part of their setup also. It deserves that honor.

670m/s from what barrel length? What is the overall length of that cartridge with 380gr slug? I would not want to make "drop feeder" out of my bolt gun!

I have seen great results with the heavey 350grn woodleighs from the 375H&H at around 2300fps. ozhunter

The little brochure that I just got shows most of the ammo is loaded at lower velocities than you would expect.I would also guess that it is to keep recoil down. The 458 lott they list at 2100 ft/sec might as well be a 458 win mag. They do show some hand loading figures that use lighter bullets on the 505 gibbs. The 525 grain bullet for the 505 Gibbs gets another 1000 ft.lbs of energy over their factory 600 grain bullets.

Anyone see this ammo available in the US yet?

If you need info on the PH line ask Husky as he has a lot of knowledge/info on it.

I have not seen any troubles with the lighter than normal bullets from GS Custom or North Fork and at normal for caliber velocities. I think with the quality of bullets we have now there is not the same need for the heavy for caliber bullets as there once was.Fifteen one shot kills with these bullets is not definitive, however they are more evidence that they do work. square shooter

They are also loading to a lower pressure than standard for the modern rounds. 50,000psi. Wish they would offer a 'tropical' load for the weatherby rounds as well!

If the 500 grain Lott at 2100 is 50,000PSI, then it sounds like somebody finally got factory ammo for the Lott right. ---------------------------------------------- "Serious rifles have two barrels, everything else just burns gunpowder."
