Here is a Hellboy round if I ever saw one. 2 oz of solid zinc in an 8 gauge! I found this while surfing for flares.

For comparison. 600 Nitro, 600OK (Dummy with SS case), 8 gauge Remington Industrial slug, 12 gauge slug


I would hate to shoulder fire that 8 gauge slug.

2 oz is equal to ~875 gr...lots of larger calibers spit that size or heavier and your basic 12-10 ga heavy 3 to 3.5" goose loads toss that amount or more.

But I agree...those loads are not all the much fun for the shoulder OR body, no matter WHAT those hairy legged mountain men say.

that slug is used in indestery to break up built up debree inside very large tumblers. blasting is better than having people get inside and banging away with hammers.

On the contrary, your comment was irrelevant, or perhaps misstated. The post was talking about the recoil associated with a 2 ounce projectile. It doesn't matter what the projectile is made of, it still weighs 2 ounces and will produce the same amount of recoil. There will be differences downrange, but that wasn't the point of the original comment.

so, you are new, and may not know all the projects going on here on AR

the hellboy refers to the 12ga from hell project here on AR, which is loading shotgun shells with rifle powder and getting amazing results

further, loading with zinc means the factory load is a low weight projectile - if it were a conventional bullet, it would have exteremly low SD - however, since its zinc, the SD formula doesn't apply, as it assumes a copper/nickle jacketed lead core bullet

now, the volume statement, lead is a higher density than zinc.. i think you can agree to that

so, loading it with a lead bullet, loaded like the 12gaFH loading techniques, would result in a far higher weight bullet, more ME, and more than likely, a much faster velocity, should someone decide to make a rifle around this round.

so, sir, my statement that zinc is lighter than lead is accurate, and relevent in the sense of all the projects going and growing around Accurate Reloading, especially in the context of huge shotgun shells being presented in the big bore forum, as if presented as a shotgun shell alone, it would be untopical to place in the big bore section, and would have been placed in the shotgunning section.

but i don't expect you to know all of the gestalt of AR big bores and the "hell" appelation as used here.

i may have entirely wasted my time trying to share this gestalt, but i certainly hope not.

8ga is .835" bore, and we got one
in falling block, for full power loads.
We did one in a NEF bored out heavy barrel,
that originally was 10ga, for moderate loads.
Older zinc slugs were heavier with a long nose
protruding out of the plastic case. 3 oz
as well as they had 3 oz lead.
Factory 3oz loads do about 1800, 2 oz 2250.
We get new cases and lead from BPI and we swage
belt down for our chambers. RMC makes brass
cases for us also.All info and pictures in
