The quarter ribs take rings, IIR. Certainly makes sense on the 30-06 if the accuracy is there to take advantage of the scope. Only two calibers as of now, 45-70 and 30-06.

I know if it shoots halfway decent it will be a good way for some of us to have a fun double for hogs, deer etc.

I may buy one if they ever get here. I would want to look it over and handle it. The personality of a gun matters to me.

I just saw an advertisement in one of the gun rags for the Remington Spartan line of guns and they showed every model EXCEPT for the SxS double rifles. Does anyone know anything new?

I have one of the IZH versions and it's nothing to write home about. Accuracy is so -so and it tends to separate cases. Not a desirable trait in a double. You dare not use reloads and the Russian steel stuff is strictly off limits. (I shot some of it to verify regulation-big mistake.)
It will shoot about 3" @50 yds.

I pull up the Remington website yesterday, and the S/S is listed there, for slightly over $500 chambered for 30-06, and 45-70! I don't know if they actually have them in stock, but they are listed right along with the other Sparten models! Confused

Mac,

Ya, it's been there for some time now.
They arn't getting them out to the various sellers for whatever reason. Even Walfart can't get them. Seems, with the number of folks wanting to buy one, they would be out in the market place.

Roger that is what I suspected to be the case! I will most likely buy one of them when they become available, at the price they are quoteing they won't be much of a loss if they are no good! I will most likely buy the 45-70 , and promptly pull the barrels and replace them with a set of .30 cal 24" barrels chambered for 30-30 Win, and regulate for 170 gr bullets @ 2100 fps, for a very nice woods deer, and hog rifle! Cool

PS: I have a sister who live in Surprise, AZ, and nepuew who live in Sun City, both near PHX. HOT out there ain't it? beer

Mac,

Yes, it does get hottttttt!!!!!!!
I moved here from commiefornia about 10 months ago. The fall and winter were great. The summer has been an eye opener. Didn't know they had the monsoons. Real suprise there too.
Anyway, the 30/30 sounds like a real good conversion. I was thinking along the lines of a double barreled 450 Alaskan. Not sure if there will be enough at the chamber end for the re-do. Baikal, sent me an E-mail, stating that only 45/70 factory loads are to be used. I'm sure that was lawyer speak for their protection from liability cases.

Doesn't matter, if you can't get your hands on the gun they will never have the problem.
