Mauser or Heym
Mauser M98 Magnum or Heym Martini Express in 416 Rigby.
Which is better in your option any why.
I have been reading up on both but have never seen one let alone fire one. If anyone has used one of them i would sure like to hear about it
Thanks, joe

Having handled both the Heym is noticeably more slender or svelte if you prefer that. There is a Heym 416 on guns international that is about 3k (maybe more) less than the asking price of the Mauser, if it has not been sold.

Those prices are creeping up on actual Martini custom rifles...

Clearly Heym. If you could handle and see them in a direct comparison the question would not even come up.

I bought a new Mauser M98 Magnum in 416 Rigby after also having considered the new Rigby big game rifle. The action is of course the same, but the stock shape slightly different (Mauser version feels slimmer than the Rigby, it also has a slightly longer LOP). The “Mauser” stock was a really good fit for me the way it came factory made.

I have not yet hunted with the Mauser M98 Magnum, but I have put down roughly 60 rounds through it at the range. I’m really happy with it so far! Accuracy is great, tolerable recoil due to good stock fit and overall balance of rifle, functioning of the action is flawless as one should expect. Weight of mine is 4.4 kg (9 lbs 11 oz) which is reasonable for a rifle in 416 Rigby in my opinion.

I can’t really comment on the Heym rifle since I haven’t tried one, but I’m sure they are great as well.

I only have a couple of other pictures; none of them are of any good quality, and they are all taken from the same side. Picture below from a recent morning deer hunting trip, had my 416 Rigby in the car and fired off some shots at “fun targets” before going home:

The Mauser M98 Magnum besides Mauser M03 with 308 win barrel.

Yes, classic-looking rifle, and in the ultimate caliber for a magazine rifle.

I chose the Heym Martini Express over the Mauser and glad I went in that direction. I consider as well done as almost all customs.

That would be my choice based on handling both at DSC show last year.

I have a Heym Martini Express in 416 Rigby and could not be happier. It is the slickest working bolt gun I have ever fired which may be directly related to the magazine on the Heym being machined specifically for the 416 Rigby. Workmanship, fit, and finish are exemplar. With factory ammunition and with a "plinking" handload with a 400gr bullet and 42gr of 5744 powder it shoots minute of angle.
