I was at Roger Ferrell's (custom gun builder)shop in Fayetteville, GA yesterday and asked him what I could do with the hog-back take-off stock on my CZ 416.

"They make really nice coals in your fireplace," he said. "best burning stocks around."

I have a couple of them sitting in the corner of my shop at camp and if anyone wants one PM me and when I get back this spring I can send them.

I like the hog back stocks. If anyone has one that they are going to burn, I'll pay the shipping to get it to me.

GAHunter,
Take a look at the McMillan Express stock for either the 602 or the CZ550. I put one on one of my 470 Mbogo's and it is really nice.

Roger has done some simply beautiful recontouring of CZ stocks. Would sadden me if he has decided not to do it again. I was saving to have him do mine.

I can take or leave those Bavarian stocks. They do add weight. But I have a Heym O/U combo that has such a stock, and I don't believe I've ever had a factory-made stock that fit me as well.

In addition, I have seen some really fine wood on some CZ's - way too nice to use for firewood.

I personally like the hogsback stocks. I'll pay shipping for a nice takeoff.

Just goes to prove that everyone is different.

Here are a couple pics of factory wood on CZ rifles. The "American" stock is on my .223 AFTER I refinished it. The other is the factory hogback on my .458 WM. It is off getting bedded and crossbolts. After it gets back then I will re-shape and re-finish it.

I also have a 452 in 22lr and a 550 7x57 that have exceptional factory wood. With some work the CZ stock can be turned into a sweet stock. Mine have all had exceptional figure and they are beefy enough they can be shaped into a really nice stock with some time and effort.
