Just purchased a Custom CZ in .375 H&H. I am having it made into a .470 Capstick. With the Mercury Reducer it will weigh a nice 10.75 Lbs.

Excellent choice, all the way around. i would suggest mcgowen for the rebarrel, and ask them to do the CZ heavy barrel pattern, but from 1.5" barrel stock, to leave the "ring" a little higher.. then have the smith of your choice recut for the rear island, put on a barrel band sling and necg front site.. timney trigger, skip the mecury tube, and add limbsaver pad. should be bedded, dual xbolted, pin in the wrist (long ways), checkering hand recut, front sling mount removed, and put a "tie down" to replace the slide for the third screw in the forearm beadblast and matte blue, 416 rigby mag spring, and away you go opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? How much does it cost to convert a Ceska's 375 H & H Magnum in one of the 470 Caspstick?, I have a 375 and I want to know as the 458 with a Lott. What is more powerful cartridge the 458 Lottor the 470 Capstick ? Thank you, Oscar. I am Spanish My forum:www.armaslargasdecaza.com

Oscar, I will let you know once I get the quotes, just waiting on 2 of them. Supposedly the 470 is more powerful due to the frontal surface, .470 versus .458, But according to the literature, either one will get the job done on the largest games.

BTW, I paid $1299 for the complete custom rifle and I got a great product, I am very happy with it. It handles like my beloved 404 Jeffery Safari Classics

Hi MileHigh, are you a Coloradan too? I'm traveling the same path. I bought a CZ 550 in 375 H&H also and had it decked out by the CZ Custom Shop with recoil reducer, dual crossbolts, glass bedding, action job, Hi Vis front sight, barrel band, etc. Mine also came in just under $1200. Then I sent it out to AHR for their CZ Upgrade #1. Here's what it looks like now... I'm planning to have the gun rebarreled to a 505 Gibbs. The 470 Capstick is a lovely round also from what I hear though and keeps you under that .50 cal limit. STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! December 11th, I took a 450 Dakota and my 550 Gibbs to Zim for Buffalo. I filled out the 4457 Customs form and booked my flight thru to Harare, Zim. I went thru United and they checked the SN against the paperwork. I picked the rifle case off the carousel in Harare. I cam back thru Dulles in Washington D.C. I went thru customs there and routed all my luggage thru to Boise. NOBODY EVER SAID BULL POOP TO ME ABOUT THE CALIBER!! This caliber crap was moron somewhere, it is not an issue. I asked. Chuck , Yup, another CO member here! I'm about 20 min north of downtown Denver. I remember seeing your posts a while back about that rifle, absoluetly gorgeous! 505 or 470....choice is yours. Like Rich said, there is a lot more talk about the restrictions then actual practice of confiscation by TSA. Still...you're rifle would be perfect for the 404-375 wildcat we cooked up over on the wildcat board lol If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

23" is the longest I would go.. 14 twist if you like to shoot barnes, 18 if you don't. without major stock work.. 800 to 1500, depending.. probably right around 1200... a custom stock? DOUBLE that... but, seriously, CALL MCGOWEN and ask them if they can take the job, or at least barrel it to the CZ profile.. that will REALLY make the job easier! opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? That's what I'm doing jeffe, I'm having Harlan at Three Rivers who was referred to me by the CZ Custom Shop work rechamber my rifle to 505 Gibbs with a 1 in 10" twist McGowen barrel. Very reasonable for the amount of work required. I'll post after it's done and tell you all how it worked out. Hi guys, the gunsmith's name and contact info is: Harlan Satrang Triple River Gunsmithing 619 Commercial Street Warsaw, Missouri 65355 (660) 438 2004 He was referred to me by Jason from the CZ Custom shop (actually he was in the shop when I called) as one of their chief gunsmiths. I'm guessing he built my rifle I was a little reticent to give out info since I haven't had any work done by him yet, but I trust Jason's recommendation. No need to PM me Sid, and sorry about the typo Regards all, Chuck Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

Thank you! I will try to give him a call next week. I have my eye on a nice CZ 550 that I would want to upgrade a little. AHR does really good work too so, I will try to call them as well. Hmmmm ... decisions, decisions. With only one large caliber rifle planned, my choice is a difficult one. Upgrading my Weatherby is easiest, an AR variant is appealing but, the CZ-550 is one of those rifles I have always wanted. My 338/06 AI was recently completed at Pac-Nor so, I can keep myself occupied with that new rifle for a while until I decide what I'm going to do for my big bore option. I've been struggling with the same issue Sid. My 375 H&H is lovely but I only have the money and time to load for one big bore rifle. I kinda really wanted a 470 Capstick or a 505 Gibbs to start, but wasn't sure about handling the recoil (and my son's talked me out of it lol). So I'm biting the bullet and sending mine out next week to Harlan. AHR does fabulous work, you can't go wrong with them, they were out of my price range for a rebarrel/rechamber to 505 Gibbs (I still have boys to send to college, etc. that whole marrying a younger woman thing ...) If you can wait a month or so I'll let you know how things go with Triple River. I'm expecting things to go very well. I had very good service with Triple River Gunsmithing. CZ had them do warrenty repairs to one of my rifles for a cracked stock. When I got the rifle back I had to double check the serial number to make sure it was the same one I sent them as I did not recognize it as it appeared brand new. They had completely refinished the rifle as new at no charge to me. Maybe they were slow at the time but that really got my attention and future business. The turn around time was just a day or so short of two weeks including round trip shipping. Don't know if their turn around is always that fast but I was surprised when I got the call that my rifle was back ready to be picked up. Rodney.

Chuck, Your 375H&H is basically stock isn't it? What does it weigh and what is recoil like? I look forward to a future comparison of the old versus new rifle. Hi Sid, it's not quite stock. First I had the CZ Custom shop add dual crossbolts, a mercury recoil reducer, action job, glass bedding, Hi-Vis front sight, barrel band and gloss oil finish at the time I ordered it. Cost delivred was $1100. Then I had AHR put a 3 pos M70 type safety on it, their single stage trigger and straighten and fill bolt, another $500. AHR did a very nice job, but in reality the CZ trigger and safety were fine. I did it as much for the aesthetics ... My CZ weighs in at 10.25 lbs empty, no sling or scope, due to the 10 oz Mercury recoil reducer. I like the way it balances with it in. chuck - you have the platform for a GREAT rifle! I would love to have a gun just like for our new wildcat, it would be the perfect rifle especially since the sights and such get to stay put. If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

Chuck if it were me I'd keep the .375 the way it is and trade up to or just save for the .505. It took me some time to trade up to one. Here is a couple pics.

Thanks Rod, I may just do that. I really like the way it shoots, 375 H&H brass is cheap. I've gotten used to shooting it in one year so I'm comfortable putting 50 or 60 rounds through it in a session. It's probably enough gun with a 350g Woodleigh at 2350 fps for anything I'm likely to shoot at. I'll make the decision next week. Harlan gave me a great price on the convesion to 505 Gibbs, it's hard to resist though. Thanks also for the feed back on Triple River. That's a beautiful gun Rod, Appreciate the advice, sincrely, Chuck Regards, Chuck "There's a saying in prize fighting, everyone's got a plan until they get hit" Michael Douglas "The Ghost And The Darkness"

Thanks Chuck, I just don't like the loss you would have to take considering the upgrades already installed. Not just the rebarreling but reworking the action also. The more I think about it maybe try to find another used CZ550 magnum to use as a doner rifle for the project. Rodney.
