New 505 has hit the stage.. Empire Rifles 505 will be based on a Weatherby Mag. Case with a straight taper to 505..It will be loaded by Superior Ammo. It will drive a 600gr. bullet to 2150 FPS.. They say the 600gr can be stoked to 2250Fps..It will have Momentum of 129 Lbs/Ft a TKO Value of 93.06 and Kinetic Energy of 6158 Lbs with the 2150 FPS loading.. A 525Gr. Bullet can be pushed to 2400 FPS..
Is this a Quantum leap for the 505..

it's an interesting round. as i understand it, the concept isn't to get the asquare like pressures, ratehr 375hh like pressures, resultsing in ~2150 for a 600, and ~2350 for a .525.... there is no flies on that one!! hotrodding it, while it would be fun, well, i wouldn't bother... like driving a 500 jeffe to 2500fps with a 535... easy as pie, but no fun!!

check my 505 Gibbs posts for a power comparison. I hit nearly 2300fps with a 650gr gaschecked bullet with the original Gibbs.

IMHO, a good idea. It will be easily built on a P14/P17/M30 Remington as a custom rifle, and for once a Weatherby
minus the dorky shoulder. Factory brass and ammunition as close as the weatherby dealer nearby, and SAAMI specs to work off of. I would have expected them to do a 510Wby on a belted 505Gibbs case shortened to an even 3.000" and a loaded round oal of 3.75", to have the extra giddyup, MV and ME. They could not just copy the 510 Wells or 500 A2. Factory ammunition for the 505 Gibbs is a 525gr bullet at 2300fps MV.

Good on Weatherby!!

I misread this and thought it was Weatherby doing it. Empire Rifles is even better. I wish them well, even if they are a bit out of my price range...still nice to see that level of craftsmanship done here in the US.

Will it take .505 or .510 dia bullets??

Apparently, with all the versions of 505 Gibbs and 500 Jefferey(versions of the Jeff or AHR or 510 Wells), etc floating around; you never want to get the ammo separated from your rifle in africa as everything is now custom. Maybe that always was the problem???

dakota,
it's a .505 bullet.

in talking with friends (hunters and PHs) getting seperated from your ammo, if it's not 375, 458win, 308, 303, 7.62x39, 12 ga, or 22 means you will be using a camp gun.

Where I hunt, I think you could also find enough 470NE, 416 Rem, 300 Win Mag to get you by as well.

The PH's love it when you leave your extra factory ammo in camp after your hunt is over.
