Hi Daryl, The Wild West Guns rear peep is very strong and very ugly. The Ashley peep is very strong also but a little nicer looking. Unless your planning to use the wrong end of that 45/70 for beating down bears I would go with the Ashley 470 Mbogo
I put a Williams WGRS peep made for the Browning BLR on my Marlin. No one else was around doing it back then. It required some filing of the bottom but the 1/2" hole spacing worked fine, I recall. It is very small, light and yeah, it's aluminum but I have had no problems with it and my groups shrunk a buch over the factory sight.

Daryl have you thought of fitting a red dot, on the 45/70 it makes for an extremely fast fireing outfit. I have one on my 1895ss and love it for running game, just an idea

I have WWG's sights on my co-pilot and I love them. My rifle was dropped off a small cliff on kodiak and the rear sight survived. The front had to be replaced (gravity works, dont try this with your rifle). Too me they are worth the money.
