DPhillips,
You may be right. The East African doesn't have the pocket plate that the Prechtel/Johannsen/SiGARMS Mauser 98M's have. It is different. I too am waiting for sumbuddy who know.

Seems like I remember when they first introduced their rifles and actions that Tony Sanchez-Arino was a "spokesman" for them, maybe helped design the rifle? He was also consulting with Dumoulin at the time and I guess I just thought there was a link there.

Regardless where they are actually made, they look like a very nice action.

I have been talking and emailing with George Sandmann the head guy at Empire about testing a Legacy and an East Africa rifle for an African Hunter article.

The Legacy will probably be here in about a month, Lord Harry willing and the creek don't rise. The East Africa will come later. Also I expect to visit with them at SCI Reno (they will exhibit there). I have not examined either rifle yet.

The Legacy is built on a Mauser action from Italy, proofed in Belgium.

The East Africa rifle is built on the Granite Mountain action.

The left-hand versions have other actions, but I am not sure yet on all the details on these. We will see.

Empire is also importing the Dumoulin rifles as Alf notes.

Hunter Jim is correct, the East African model is built on a Granite Mountain action. The Legacy is built on a Mauser action that is investment cast I believe in Italy. You can find some info on it from the importer at www.legacysports.com. They are also the importers of the Howa rifles as well as some other stuff. I have talked to George Sandman also and would sure like to see one of the rifles in person, but he hasn't had a midwestern customer as of this time. He says they put in hours of handwork on the action itself, to ensure smooth operation.
