I’m close to purchasing an old BRNO ZKK-602 in 375H&H. It is little to unfired, shows age but not wear. It has express style iron sights and a straight blade set trigger. The stock is monte carlo style with rosewood forend and pistol grip cap (white inlay)- looks nice to me. The age is purported to be circa 1973, but I don’t know how to tell if it is pre’73 – some posts here have identified that as the pivotal date, ala Pre’64 Win.

My only concern is the trigger – very foreign to me and doesn’t feel all that precise, convenient, or comfortable. I’m ok with the backwards safety. Provided it feeds reliably and has reasonable accuracy, I don’t intend any custom work, at least for now.

Asking price at the local shop is $725. I think I can talk him down some. My main goal is to have a reliable if not refined cape buff rifle at low cost. Something that I can call my own and practice with as opposed to a loaner. I’ve read countless 602 threads and would just like some final thoughts.

Thanks, Brian

btglfer: I own one of these guns, all I had to adjust was the trigger. Simply I got a screwdriver, put together the two blades, turned tighter the screw and that was that. Several hundreds of shots after, the rifle is still going strong and the letoff is crips and not too heavy pressure is required for firing.
Alas, the stock seems to have been altered in some way and I don´t believe in white inlays, but these are just my personal tastes.
Good luck

The 602 is a fine gun, I've owned 2 and I bought the last one about a year ago for $500.00.

Maybe I got too good a deal, but $700 for a 602 sounds a little steep to me (unless it has the pop-up peep).

You can buy a "new" 550 for the same money... are they any different??? a little, but not much (the safety is the biggest change).

For the same money, i'd get a new 550 with the straight stock and a warranty.

For $500.00, i'd buy the 602. In short, I think the dealer is asking too much.

The trigger is not a problem. You can change the straight trigger to a curved one. I'm sure CZ has one laying around - call them to confirm.

I'd buy it only if it has the pop-up rear aperture sight. Otherwise, I think it's overpriced.

You might want to check with Systeme98 who posts on here, he created a trigger for the CZ550's, you could find a thread on it in a search. I would not be surprised one bit if he could adapt it to work in the 602.

I owned a ZKK602 in 375, liked it very much. I don't care for the single set trigger; they came with a standard trigger too which may be missing. Sometimes they show up on ebay if yours is missing. If the rifle has a pop up peep, $700 is not too much, one sold for $1475 recently on GunsAmerica. The Weatherby style stock can be customized to look like an English express rifle with a rasp and a little sand paper, steel grip cap, solid pad, 90 degree ebony tip, new checkering, etc.

i think it's a single set trigger.. work the bolt and push the trigger forward... it should FEEL a click...

and then be very much lighter and tighter...

i passed on one a year ago, for $450... but no rear peep sight, and the same BACKWARDS SAFETY... the safety is BACK to fire, FORWARD for safe

if it had had the peep, i would (force of habit) haggled to 400 and left with it..

I had a BRNO M602 .375 H&H built in the early 90s. No action folding peep. I changed the safety to a M70 style three-position type. Mine was equipped with the curved trigger blade (non-set). You could find one I expect. Mine would hold six cartridges down.

The price is too high, and I don't think that is a BRNO stock.

They were available with 2 types of stocks, a standard utility looking one sorta classic style, and a "deluxe" version that looked like a Weatherby (white spacers, 45 degree rosewood tip, rosewood grip cap, triangular forend, high Monte Carlo cheekpiece).

Around $500-$650 is about what the ones w/o the peep go for now. I'll say it again, $700 isn't too much for the folding peep version, they'll sell for that in a flash.

There have been plenty of arguments on these boards about the "backass" safety. Liked mine just fine, never got confused, just like cocking a hammer gun. And when I switched back to my M70s and Mausers with M70 safeties, never any confusion. Ron will tell you different.
