I'll sure as hell vote for the .50 Alaskan before all that Short Fat Junk they came out with. All a lot of NOTHING! The .50 Alaskan, now there's SOMETHING! Bill T.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I didn't mean to imply WWG invented the cartridge but the conversion for the Marlin. My sincerest apologies to all I may have offended.

500 Grainer,

I am shooting the .376 Steyr, and I can report that it is not a proprietary cartridge. It is based on the 9.3X64 Brenneke which is popular in Europe and Africa, but not North America. The .376 Steyr is a 9.5X60 in metric terminology.

My rifle is the Steyr ProHunter, which has a 20" barrel. Mine weighs 9 pounds and change with scope, sling and ammo. Hornady is making ammo now. Steyr did discontinue this cartridge in the Scout Rifle. I like the carbine/.376 Steyr combination. The recoil is definitely milder than the .375 H&H, and it is handy hunting.

I am working on a load for it with the GS 270 grain FN solid.

If the .50 Alaskan is to make it into the Marlin line, they will need ammunition too. Hornady would probably take this on, and they make the .450 Marlin ammo two.

HI,

BILL T, you are so on the money, all the 450 Marlin is a hot 4570,no inprovement. The 50 Alaskan has a bigger diameter.510,heaver bullets and more fps. Marlin will wake up some day and see this. And yes it will work in Africa. Thanks,Kev

Why not go all the way and get a 50-110 a .3 inch longer case and approximately 300 fps faster with the same wt bullet and the same pressure under 45,000. I know it works in a browning

Hey, I'd be all for a 50-110, but I think there is a much better chance of getting Marlin to bring out a 50 AK where there is relatively little work to do to make the 50 AK work. The 50-110 would require a whole new action, and I doubt Marlin would go for that. I just wish they would rework the 1895's action to handle a little longer bullet like WWG and DCR does. If they can do it, Marlin darned sure can. But I do not think there is any way on earth the 1895 can be reworked enough to handle the 50-110 round.
