I'm off to Alaska soon on a brown bear hunt with my 375H&H and want to use IMR 4064 powder and the 300gr Swift A-Frame bullet. Any recommended start points for hand loads?

Dennis

That is the powder that Sierra lists as their accuracy load. Min. load is 61.4, Max is 68.0 and 66.7 is the accuracy load. If that doesn't work for you try some W760.

Dennis,

I've used WW 760 since 1991 or so, and never lacked for accuracy or velocity. Give it a try.

Ive used 4320 and RE 15 with 270 and 300 grainers and had good accuracy and velocity - no compressed loads either. 67.5 grains of IMR 4320 gave about 2530 on the chrony. Accuracy better than I could hold it. Not absolutely maxed out, but right up there. My Mod 70 is not picky on powder. Best all around powder is RE 15. IMR/H 4350 is ok, but you will have to get to compressed loads.

For my all-purpose load I use 67.0gr of IMR-4064 and standard primers in my .375 with the 300gr Hornady RN. This gives me right at 2500 fs and is accurate for me.

I know you asked for IMR 4064. But in the interest of information I use 69.0 gns of Reloader 15 behind a 300 gn A-Frame to get ~2450 fps.

I agree W-760 is hard to beat in the 375 H&H

Will this ever end????????

Right from the start you are getting good advice, i.e., the Win 760 and the IMR 4064. I use both but get best accuracy from the IMR 4064 at 68 grs with Fed 215M primers and Winchester brass. I've been to 70, but there is no need to go there in my rifle, a Sako Safari.

Normally 67-69 grains of 4064 will get you 2500 fps with a 300 grain in the H&H.

I started with 63gr of IMR 4064 under the 300gr Swift A-Frame and got a 2" 3 shot group and stopped with 67gr and a 3/4" 3 shot group. A little final tuning of my group positioning and I'll be set. Thnaks for all the advice.

I use RL-15 and a 300 grain Swift A-frame's in my 375 H&H. This load chronographs at 2600fps and will shoot <1" groups. I won't tell you how many grains, because it is a max load and I need to look it up. If you want the load data send me a PM.

I just started reloading with IMR 4064 and 300 grain Barnes TSX bullets and was very impressed. Here's my post on it:
