I tried some IMR 4064 in my 375 H&H with the Barnes 300 g TSX and did that work out great!

Here are two consecutive groups. Most reloading manuals give the Max load with 300 g bullets at 67 - 68.5 grains of IMR4064 at 2500 fps. I have no signs of pressure at 67 grains.

Do you think that any animal will care that I'm only getting 2472-2482 fps?

Fjold,

It looks like you've found an excellent load!!! Just as a reference, I get 2480 fps using 68.0 grs of IMR-4064 with the 300 gr Hornady RN out of the 23" barrel on my Ruger M77 RSM. This is a very accurate load in my Ruger.

The 68 grain load with a 300 grain is an old standard. However, the TSX normally will take a grain less powder to reach the same velocity and I assume pressure. 2500 fps is fast enough for sure and yours might read 2500 with someone else's chronograph. I've yet to own a .375 that wasn't MOA or better for three shots with 4064 or RL15, and that takes in quite a few. 4350 in the .375's either shoots real well or real common, kind of hit or miss in my experience. One of these days I'll try some Ramshot Big Game, although I'm not sure why. It works great in almost every medium bore I've tried it in. I just tested some in a .338-06 that I'd been struggling to get a decent load with the 210 NP, only loaded 3 rounds, and they were one hole. I hope that wasn't a fluke, as I haven't been able to get it under 1.5 in. with anything.

Frank, those are awesome results, i'm a big fan of 4064 in both the .375 and the .308. Very pleased for you, but not surprised... knew you could shoot!

Tony Boyer would say that you missed a condition. I think it is a damn nice couple of groups. Now will it do that all the time?

More times than not with the 300 grain TSX and the 260 grain Partition. It's the best gun that I own.
