Although I have a perfectly good Sako Fiberclass in 375 H&H, I have some money burning a hole in my pocket. I am looking at getting a 416. My current choices are: 1) Ruger M77 RSM MKII Magnum 416 Rigby 2) Remington KS 416 Rem. I like the Ruger better because of the integral 1/4 rib, the heft and the full barrel band swivel. The only thing I really like about the Rem is the McMillan stock and it's a little lighter for packing. I am not sure who the rocket scientist was that came up with the half barrel band. Please don't mention the CZ because I am not interested. I would also entertain a M70 Classic in 416 if I could find one in the $1200-$1500 price range. Thanks for your input. So I have had both a MkII 416 Rigby and a MOdel 70 416 RM and either one will do the job. I preferred the .416 Rigby of those two and used it on Elephant last September. I am a little sorry I sold the Rigby but there were taxidermy bills to pay. I think I will replace it later on. I liked the mk II so well I also have a Lott and .375 now as well. I cannot respnd on the McK stock as I have never had one. Frank

There is absolutely no decision to make here Dr. Lou. It is the Ruger M77 RSM MKII Magnum HANDS DOWN. If you ever come up with the rocket scientist's name that came up with the half barrel band please post it. The M70 Classic in .416 Rem is rock solid, but I don't think the price range you ask is reasonable. Very good decision not to mention the CZ. What an overpriced piece of crap.

I really love my M77 Rigby. Wouldn't have it any other way. Well maybe if I had a lot more income than I do, I might do an original Rigby, but otherwise, I'll stick with my Ruger. David

Gent's, thanks for the help. I am not a big Ruger fan but have always liked the build quality of the MKII RSM and I am fan of classic cartridges like the Rigby. I set my price range at $3500, but those are the two that I have been looking at, and if I don't need to spend more to get what I want, I won't. I have always believed the RSM is a lot of gun for the money. The 1/4 rib alone will cost more than the rifle to make. I just missed a nice M70 for $985. All the others are going for about 2K. I still believe that you get more for your money with the Ruger MKII RSM even compared to the M70 - and it's not worth more than $1500 in my book. The only reason the Rem got any consideration was because I like McMillan stocks and for $1200 I considered it. I can't believe folks actually pay over 2.5K for a Remington, even if it's a KS. It would be cheaper to buy a regular 416 Rem and buy the McMillan stock and full barrel band. Thanks, Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member

I have the RSM in .416 Rigby as well. They are nicely finished shoot great and have that classic African look. A shot not taken is always a miss

Another vote for the Ruger. I prefer it over even the winchester because I like the Rigby version better that the Remington version of the 416. Again, the cz's are not my cup of tea, they seem to handle like a tree limg for me.

I love my Ruger Rigby. Buy it and don't look back. Another vote for the Ruger. I've not been a fan of Ruger for several years. I was looking for a 375 H&H to go with my 300 H&H, but I couldn't afford a Win or Dakota so I looked at a RSM. Didn't like the grip, weight, or kick pad, but it had a real nice piece of wood, great sights and best of all it shoots like a dream. Am now saving for the 416 in RSM. I just wish Ruger would build them in 404J.

The RSM is on its way! It's the newer style with the barrel band in front of the stock. Thanks, Lou **************** NRA Life Benefactor Member
