Just got a .416 rigby. I use a Lee Classic Turret Press but Lee dies for the .416 rigby are a bigger diameter than standard dies. Got some RCBS dies but still want to use the Lee Factory Crimp die. What do I do? Get a special press fot the Lee F C die?

Lee is making the .416 Barrett dies with threads 1-1/4" x 12-tpi.

This is the 50BMG size die body and thread.
Is your Lee "Factory Crimp" die that big?
Makes sense that they would offer the .416 crimp die in that size for the .416 Barrett.

The RCBS AmmoMaster press with the bushing removed fits that thread size.

I can't find .416 Rigby listed anywhere as a standard offering, just .416 Remington and .416 Barrett at

www.leeprecision.com

The only "Large Series" dies I see there are 1-1/4" x 12tpi.

The only standard "Factory Crimp" die in .416 listed is for .416 Remington.

Custom .416 Rigby Factory Crimp die from Lee?

My RCBS 416 Rigby dies have the standard threads and work on my Rock Chucker. I also have a Lee Factory Crimp die for the 416 Rigby which is also on the standard threads. Did they change thread sizes recently?

Wink,
I have several sets of .416 Rigby dies, and all have the 7/8" diameter threads: Redding, RCBS, Lyman.

My CH4D 470 Mbogo dies have the 1"x14-tpi, but they are unnecessarily big and crude for a .416 Rigby case head.

I am thinking somebody got hold of a .416 Barrett Lee Factory Crimp die that matches the threads on the .416 Barrett dies that Lee is now making, here of late. Those are 1.25"x12-tpi

So if I want a good, easily obtainable set of dies for this caliber, will the RCBS set, along with a Lee factory crimp die be sufficient? I assume that the lee die will be a must to get my bullets to stay put in this caliber?

I follow Rule #62.

I too have never needed a Lee crimper for the .416 Rigby. It has a long neck and if the expander button is not over size in the die, it will grip well and the seater die crimp is more than enough.

I use RCBS dies in am old Rockchucker and just crimmp with the RCBS roll crimp in the seater die and it works perfectly for me. Is this Lee die something special? If so what is wrong with the roll crimp of the RCBS die. If you don't want to crimp and seat in one operation just make 2 operations out of it.

I use the Lee Factory Crimp Die on my 454 casull because the RCBS die will not crimp heavy enough to prevent bullets creeping out of the case under recoil (cylinder will lock up). Also I get better accuracy and higher/more consistent velocity. This 416 Rigby will be my first rifle over .30 cal, with the exception of muzzleloaders, so I didnt know if I would run into the same thing or not.

The 416 Rigby Factory Crimp Die is a special order from Lee. All you have to do is unscrew the insert where you normally screw in your normal dies and the crimp die will screw right in. jorge
