A have a couple projects starting a 404 & 375. Should I have secondary recoil lugs on the rifles. Both are post 64 classic actions. Nope, not necessary in such gentle rifles. They will have more accuracy potential without the block on the barrel, but could be good enough with the block on the barrel too. If I planned for walnut stocks I would just use two good crossbolts and pillared glass bedding, and no secondary recoil lug on the barrel. In a synthetic like McMillan, even more so: No secondary recoil lug needed.

Good. Now on my 416 & 450 rigby I know the answer. That 450 will be as gentle as a Cape Buff. "A long life, and the good sense to live it." ...Quintis Arrius 375H&H,404J,416DAK,458AFR,416RIG,450RIG,505GIB Avatar: Gregory Peck & Susan Hayward in Africa NRA member

The SIGARMS Mauser 98 Magnum in 450 Dakota has no secondary recoil lug on the barrel. The Ruger RSM's in .458 Lott have only one recoil lug. Dakota built/builds their 450 Dakota M76 rifles with no secondary recoil lug on the barrel, just the action recoil lug. Personally, if I had my druthers I would want a primary action lug and secondary barrel lug on anything of .458 caliber or larger, .458 WinMag and up.
