Getting closer, have to extend the tigger, still not pleased with the pad (jeffs outfitter pad) it tore in a couple of small places (froze it before I ground) and the london gun pad I fitted didnt lay flat and I cooked it heated it you name it. I need to blue the grip cap and rear swiv. Its steel bedded front to back, steel rod from the tang down. Feeds four down real good. Hope to shoot it in a few days. ![]() Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

WVFred, Not much to it, mdl 70, started out a 300 ultramag I bought real cheap. Sunny-hill bottom metal. Pac-Nor barrel (pretty sure its a #5 taper. NECG sights, rear sight is see through fiber optic. Used factory box. I did the stock on my pattern, Fiddleback Baston. Mike Kokolus turned it. Lines in the stock run the wrong direction, but the pores in the wood run the right direction for the most part. But I still put a rod in the grip. I've been working on it for a while. I made the pattern from stock I had turned by GAG, it was more than I could do, it was pretty bad and I screwed it up, so I made a pattern out it. Warne QD rings and cheap Tasco Titan scope. At some point in time will put a Kahlas prof scope on it, but the tasco will work till I work up enough guts to drop the dime on high dollar scope, I get buyers remorse real bad. Got about $1550 in it so far, including 100 bucks for Dennis Olsen to get it to feed and about the same for Dewight Marshal to screw the barrel on it and mout the sights, I did the stock. I need to spot the barrel channel again, it seems real tight at the forend. Got some other odds and ends to do and its finished. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

Jeffe, Thanks, that was one hard heavy piece of Bastone, first time it hit it with a scraper sparks flew. think I'll make a pattern like that for a CZ and turn that other piece of fiddleback bastone I have, its got better grain and more fiddleback than that one. I like the chair too. Both good looking. Sunny Hill does nice work on their drop floor plates. Have any idea how much your rifle weighs? I have owned a few Tasco scopes. Never had any problem with them, though everyone seems to disparage them. Very nice looking rifle. ------------------------------- Will / Once you've been amongst them, there is no such thing as too much gun. --------------------------------------- and, God Bless John Wayne. Gringo Cazador, Good work! 10 pounds is a great weight with scope for such a rifle. Looks like the barrel contour is just right and it ought to balance to suit. May I ask what the muzzle diameter is and what contour is the barrel? I think the M70 is a great platform for a .404 Jeffery. Yours looks to be stainless, custom bottom metal in stainless too? I have found that bead blasting the stainless and running it through a hot blue will just dull and darken it slightly, so that it comes out looking like the pewter gray sort of color that Ruger stainless guns have. I guess that is how Ruger does it. I've got an M70 Classic Stainless .404 Jeffery in a Brown Precision stock, 24" McGowen 10" twist, that is still a work in progress. My muzzle diameter is 0.720", and it just recently got the banded Moon Bead/Tiger Sight. Those QRW/Warne Maxima type bases are the smoothest, prettiest, most unobtrusive base to have on a rifle that you want to look good and carry well with the scope off. The Talley's are not quite so pretty when the scope is off. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the QRW type scope bases. I have them on many guns such as .375 Wby M70 and the .404 Jeffery M70. They take a pounding without a hitch when the sguare contour recoil tabs are in the rings. If you want to get down to business fast with the shooting, just use Varget Extreme powder with the Federal GM215M or F215 primer. You can go as fast or slow as you want with that powder and not have to mess with the drop tube or compressed loads. Least temperature variation too. No surprises with Varget Extreme. RL-15 would be a close second, but a little faster and higher pressured for similar velocities, I guess. Of course, my barrel has Magic Micro Lands and a fast twist. Slower powders don't work as well for me. Your mileage may vary. Mine is sub-Moa out to 300 yards, for African Sheep. Good choice of action, caliber, and great woodwork on your part. ![]()

Rip, Muz is about .730, #5 pac-nor. The gun is bead blasted SS, I will have to bead blast it again, I havent bead blasted the bottom metal, have some polishing to do. My plan was to load some RL 15 and some Varget, hope to get some bullets loaded tomorrow if I can got off the Honey do wagon.

Rodger, I will be sending it to Bill Soverns. This is the gun I wanted you to engrave the caliber on it but my buddy that screwed the barrel on it for got and stenclied the cal on it, he wasnt supposed to put the cal on it. I wanted you to do it. Wanted to talk to you about machining a flat on where the cal is stenciled and see if you could engrave over it. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)
