.375/350-grain Barnes TSX, woohoo!
.375/350-grain Barnes TSX, woohoo!
Here's that "infomercial" from the Fall 2009
African Sporting Gazette.
Will this bullet work?
All that SD (.357) might make the bullet a more reliable expander at lower velocity.
Might make it a better penetrator at any velocity ...
if it is not so long that it is unstable in the common 1:12" TWIST.
An excuse for a 1:10" twist .375 barrel?
Nah, if it won't work in 1:12", it won't get used.
From the photo, looks like the .374" diameter bullet will be about 1.721" long.

It's QuickLOAD time for the .375 Lapua, with a 3.75" COL, in a 3.8" box, with a ".375 Wby of 2001" throat!
And also, .375 WBY, .375 RUM, or .378 Wby, all with long box and proper throat, of course.
2600, 2700, 2800 fps?
The latter only with the .378 WBY?
I think it will crowd the case capacity a bit with a 3.6" COL .375 H&H.

<Mike McGuire>There must be a lot of 375 rifles out there that are not 375 H&H.
In the H&H that bullet would have one good feature. With top loads it would drop out the end of the barrel and roll along the ground. You could pick it up and use it again

Sounds like the 375 RUM must gathering momentum and sales. Some shooters must be seeing Saeed's stuff and taking performance, ease of loading over tradition

Big Bore Boar HunterThe 300 TSX is such a good bullet, I would question the need for the 350, but someone somewhere wanted it and here it is! Might make for some pretty good penetration in the 375 H&H, my guess is you should be able to get 2200 fps give or take. To me it would make a great bear or moose bullet.

BNagelMy difficulty would be -- what powder? W760 might have to do. Had to swap to IMR 4831 to get enough powder behind woodleigh 350-grainers and have a semi-compressed load I could crimp. W760 with 380- and 350-grain RHINOs works but they might still move back due to magazine recoil despite the extra long bearing surface (which the TSX also has). .375 Wby, BTW.
Hmmmm...

375 RUM time or dare I say it, 378 time.

Dave BushWith Barnes bullets, I always go the other direction and shoot the next lightest bullet e.g. in the .375 H&H, a 270 grain bullet, .416 Rigby, a 350 grain bullet, .450 Dakota, a 450 grain bullet, etc. Since the Barnes bullets are so much longer than conventional bullets and penetrate so well anyway, I am not sure I see much need for a
heavier one but it might work in a Weatherby or something shooting really fast.

analog_peninsulaDidn't Saeed run into stability issues with the longer copper bullets at high velocity? I think his input on the subject would be very useful.

They already make that one for the 50 BMG.
Varmint application.
Hey, I hear North Fork has a .375/350-grainer,
and it performs well for accuracy,
and gives 2478fps at 56K PSI from a 26" barrel, in what I presume is a .375 H&H.
I'll bet it is not as long as the TSX.

gabe mIf I remeber correctly in Kevin Robertson's book "Africa's Most Dangerous" he stated that Barnes used to make a 350 grain .375 bullet, I belive in the X-bullet not TSX. I don't have the book in front of me right now, just going off memory. With Woodliegh and Rhino now making 350 and 380 grain 375's I guess Barnes wants to be included in the mix. However, like so other posters have said I see this weight more appealing in a Weatherby, RUM or some of the other fast 375's. If it shot good in your particular rifle it should hit very hard on the biggest stuff.

Gabe,
That was ye olde "Barnes Original" cup&core-nonbonded-thick-jacketed roundnose soft.
No previous X this heavy.

And don't forget the big 375s like the 375 RUM and 378 Wby do the 375 H&H ballistics with reduced loads.
375 H&H = 4 cyclinder revving its arse out
375 RUM and 378 = big V8 in cruise mode.

jetdrvrI've had good luck (on paper only) with the 350 Woodleigh PRP using 67 gr. RE-15. 2324 avg. velocity and MOA accuracy from my Mod 70 Safari Express.
Next year, I'm going to try them on buffalo meat.

WhitworthThat's a bloody long bullet, if you ask me. Hard to stabilize????

Gossip has it that the North Fork .375/350-grainer is about 1.582" long, similar in length but much more consistent in length than the Rhino of same caliber and weight.

A TSX hunting version is needed now

Though a huge 378 WBY fan I do not see a need for this bullet. It is not like it will have a super high BC for long range (within sane limits) work. None of the none tipped big diameter TSX's have a BC worth noting. The 270 TSX was tosted as having a .505 BC. Yeah right! What is it now? Well under .400 right? A 300 X is just fine at least in my opinion.

Oh, my mistake.
Barnes has made a 647-grain 50-cal bullet as an "XBT," not a TSX.
The 647-grain XBT has a long nose and a boat tail, with single cannelure for crimping and hollow point for varmints!
They also make, more recent, a 647-grain TSX BT, not quite what you need:
I sure hope they make a TSX 650-grainer for you boom stick, with a short nose and a flat base, and lots of cannelures.
570 grains is enough for me.

Barnes is still not showing the .375/350-grainer at their website. New for 2010?

chuck375Those hot 375's are looking better all the time now. A 375 Weatherby in a CZ 550 where you can seat the bullet out shooting one of these at 2550 would be real nice. Saeeds' 375/404 shooting these at 2700 fps would be even nicer ...
Cheers,
Chuck

You would not have to worry about bullet blow up due to excess velocity

One of these would be good in 375 H&H (and they chamber it). Like the Cobra, a blend of America and England. Long magazine, super reliable feeder.
