Another 404 Jeffrey

eugeAnother 404 Jeffrey
Well, after a long wait I finally picked up my new 404 Jeffrey yesterday. Inspired by the big bore crowd here, it is built on a model 70 supergrade.
It has a stainless Kreiger barrel cut to 24", NECG sights, a Talley barrel band, Williams 1pc bottom metal & all metal coated to match. The gunsmith tuned the trigger, & added a 1/2" spacer & new pad to make the lop 14 3/8.
I was hoping to load up some shells last night and head to the range this morning, but the gunsmith couldn't find the dies I left with him

I try to attach some pics.

eugeSounds like fun, you may have to bring the primers though. I have 50 left & can't them anywhere. Poor planning on my part.

Rob at Williams Gunsight in Davison, Mi. did all the work. We had a long wait on the barrel, but once it arrived he finished it in just over a month.

SevenxbjtGreat rifle. what did you wind up with weight wise? Trigger setting?

Your rifle is what I had in mind the the entire time. It looks much nicer on a kudu skin.

The best I can tell on my bathroom scale is around 9lbs. I'll weigh it on a digital scale at work tomorrow. The trigger is right at 3lbs. I was aiming between 3-4 lbs.
Thanks for the comments guys.

gbangerBeautiful. My problem with pretty rifles is they don't get taken out much by me. That doesn't sound natural does it?

RockdocBeautiful rifle euge. I really like the M70 classic action. Is one crossbolt enough for a .404?

thunder stickVery nice!! Hope to get my 300 rum into the smith soon to start the work on mine. Will be looking for a wood stock for the model 70 to complete the package, mine has a synthetic now. I think wood would be a better fit for a 404.

eugeOh boy, don't know how I didn't catch that. My ignorant bliss just came to a screeching halt. I was just thinking, how could you do something so stupid until I noticed my dumbass misspelled in the topic header.
I don't suppose there's an easy fix.

RustyDon't worry about it. It will match the "Jeffrey" on the Hornady brass boxes!

boom stickPost in the gunsmithing forum about a fix.
Should not be too bad. A minor blip on the screen and a good laugh to tell your buddies afterwards. Great gun!

Brad aka Pill ShooterMy Jamison Brass spells Jeffery as "Jeffrey" That is the head stamp of the box of 500 Jeffery I just picked up so don't feel bad. I did it so I could clear customs with my rifle and ammo. Brad

boom stickSeems Jamison should sell that brass as scrap cheap to me

michael458Excellent Rifle! Would not worry with the spelling, most Customs can't read much less spell!
I do love a Winchester!
Congrats, I know it will do everything you need of it!

eugeThanks guys I feel better about it. I usually don't get too worried about small stuff, but this is my 1st rifle that's not plain jane straight from the factory. It felt like someone kicked me in the stomach when boom stick pointed it out. (thanks by the way)

TerryRBeautiful rifle! I don't care if you spell it "Jeffery" or "Jeffrey" I'd be proud to own it.

I did say I was sorry already.

Not a man here would not consider that gun a gem and the fix should be not a big deal.
Color me green with envy

AzGuyAin't the first time for "Jeffrey vs Jeffery" and won't be the last

If it bothers you too much......just ship the rifle to me!!

JudgeGDang!
This thread made me run into the gun room and confirm the ".404 Jeffery" on my barrel.
I've a couple, btw, and one is at the gunsmith getting a drop box... I hope its correct, too.
As to the .300 RUM conversion into a Super Grade Model 70 .404, I've posted some pictures of mine before, but this is new, I think.
I took my rifle to Africa two years ago and killed a p.a.c. elephant and some PG. If you can find a Model 70 in .300 RUM, it sure does make a simple conversion.... and a pretty one, too.
