I have been hunting for a 416 rem mag in a stainless gun forever. There are not many made from the custom shop per year.I finally snagged one for under $1000 .I smile for ever 416 rem mag I get under $1000.I have 6 416 rem mags now.I just decided to sell the Sako 416.I didnt like the stock and it was not stainless.I still have two Winchester model 70s a express super grade and a nib safari classic. My other two are Remington Big Game Rifles.I am still going to build a 416 ultra mag in a Winchester but I could not pass up this Remington Stainless 416 rem mag.I was wondering if anyone else had one of these rifles. If the sako didnt have so much of a cheek piece I would have kept it but I didnt like the stock at all.

Congratulations on your find.
It's interesting to see someone pursue a special niche in their collections.
Yours is the .416 Rem.Mag. / DGR.

I like the fact that you've spread the cartridge across different makes of rifles, without resorting to bashing one or the other.
Good Luck and Have Fun with 'em!
--------------------------------

My preference is the Remington 700 platform, for which I take much crap...especially on this Forum.
It 'says' BIG BORE', but as we all know, it's dominated by those that favor the Mauser/CRF action and actually DO hunt African Dangerous Game.
For that, I have come to agree with their assessment, and only because I listened to them! Wink
I'm gleeful that Remington has picked up the ZASTAVA action to work with, and will investigate it in depth as things develop.
Converting the .458 Win.Mag. offering to LOTT really has me interested, but I'd build it as an ugly, black, working gun...

SOMETIMES, though, I've considered just bagging the entire idea of going that far because I just can't see ever getting to use a gun like that for it's intended purpose as a STOPPING RIFLE.
With that in mind, my "fallback position" has been to consider getting the Remington Custom Shop Safari model in .416 Rem.Mag. --- cheers

At some point, I must make decision between whether the 'BUBBA STOPPING RIFLE' is what I want, or if it's really just a 'BIG BORE' aka over .40 CAL. rifle...

The .416 Rem.Mag. in a 700 would certainly give me a familiar platform that would work just fine anywhere I'm likely to use it, and still qualifies as a BIG BORE.

Thanks for your post...I didn't realize it would prompt me to ramble on so!

Rifles, Inc makes one on a pre 64 Model 70 action.I happen to have one which I have had for about 10 years. These guns are real shooters and are somewhat customized. One of the options is express sights which could come in handy.

I started off with a Winchester 416 rem mag super grade.I liked it so much that I have stuck with it.I usually buy every 416 rem mag these days that is a good deal.I got 3 of them for $600 .The Winchester was $629 when they first came out.Its one of the moset efficent cartridges .The brass is kinda thin but its strong and very cheap for such a powerful gun.I got use to shooting it.I would have loved to kept the Sako and turned it into a 416 Ultra mag but I would had had to spend too much money and that hard while your building a house.I will make a Stainless 416 ultra mag on a Winchester Stainless action but that still to come.I snagged this stainless Remington 416 as fast as I could .I have only seen a few for sale they got gone very quick.Ilike my Remington Big Game rifles in the Remington 700 they have HS stocks and 22" barrels and are my brush guns.I think the 416 replaced the 458 winchester as the African Favorite. You hardly see any 458 Winchester any more.I bought that 1973 Super grade because of the Winchester closeure and because I got it at a very good price.I do want some fiberglass stocks for my winchester 416s .I have shot my 416s all together over 2000 rounds and have gotten probally 50 people to shoot them with the reduced loads I practice with. Its alot of fun to just plink away with big bores at the range.

I finally got my stainless 416 rem mag model 700 yesturday. It is very smooth for a stainless rifle.Even alot smoother than my stainless model 70 .I do like the stock even though it is so light it make the rifle muzzle tippy.I am thinking of putting a muzzle break so that I can target practice with it alot.I will shoot it first without one just to see how it is.I have not had to put one on any of my 416s yet but I just thought about trying one on this rifle. The olny thing I dont like is there is no floorplate.I though that it came on this gun.Its is about as perfict for an Alaska Big gun can get.I have Two winchester model 70s which I like too much to beat up and rust to pieces in Alaska.I wish Ruger would come out with that stainless rifle in the 77 in the 416 rem mag.I sure am glad I reload I saw the cheapest 416 shells in Ak yesturday they were $65 a box but they were the old barnes solids. Most 416 rem mag shells are $100 a box up here. You harly ever see a box of 416 rigbys up here but about everyone has a few boxes of 416 rem mags.I just reload a couple of hundred of them.

I've got one of the stainless safari rifles in .458 Win mag. Picked it up this spring for just over 1K with a Tasco Titan scope mounted in Warne rings/bases. Love this rifle.

I am adding a Muzzle break by Extreme Rifle works in Plamer Alaska and a floor plate to my rifle.I need to get that dang jbolt off there too I guess.I cant believe they ever put such a thing on guns. The muzzle break will help me pratice more .I like to shoot at leat 100 rounds of reduced loads when I take my rifle out twice a year.

I am also thinking of adding either a lazer or a surefire flashlight that I can take off for night time use for bears in Alaska. This will be an awesome tent gun for up close and personal bears.Someday I will build either a Ruger 77 416 Rem mag stainless or a Winchester stainless but that will have to wait till my house is finished.
