Can anyone tell me anything out of the ordinary about the round? Im considering having a barrel done by marlin for my H&R ultra just for fun and something new to tinker with. It seems to be a cheap way for a new toy. I have researched the case a little and i like the looks of it. Im wondering if the H&R is throated deep enough for longer bullets. Anyone have one of these. they claim the 22 inch barrel gives it a little better performance. What bullets do you prefer?

You might want to ask in the Single Shots forum; there are some H&R owners in there. George

send your ulta back to hr, and they'll do you a barrel for like 60 bucks. fun round, but to the hand loader, there's zero difference, especially in a single, than a 45/70 jeffe opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? A firend told me a long time ago about the 458 american. i thought it sounded like a good idea. I guess marlin thought so too. im on an offspring compromised budget so i cant afford anything too flashy. It would just be a toy/plinker/hog gun. Thanks for the idea on the singleshot page. I saw alot of info there on H&R's

The 45/70 is the ballistic equivalent of the Marlin when handloaded, and is better in a single shot with its full rimmed configuration. The 450 Marlin WOULD be advantageous in a rebarreled WSM bolt action as it could be seated out to 2.80 inches and would cycle nicely.
