Hello All,

I was driving through rural Mississippi today and happened across a gun store. They had a selection of New England Handy Rifles for between $269 and $279. The extra ten bucks was for a plastic stock. They had some 22" barreled 45-70's and a 500 S&W. I could not get over how light and convenient these rifles were. The sights weren't bad either...open black iron sights for the 45-70 and bright fiber optic open sights for the 500 S&W.

I have no need for either rifle but boy are they sure nice.

I have the 45/70... it's fun to shoot, at marlin load levels.
RUGER levels kicks pretty hard, and it's savage in a 6.25#

It looked to me like it light weight for heavy loads. What nitch did this rifle fill for you Jeffosso? It looks like a fantastic solution to a problem I don't have. I wish I had a reason to get one.

of course one could use this for recoil training, using the ultra cheap remington 405 bullets. It's a warmup rifle, certainly.. 5 stiff laods out of it, then 15 mins with a 22, then your big bore.... unless it says RUM or WBY on the casse, it's unlikely it will kick as sharp and you'll shoot better....

but don't tell the wife *I* said so!!!


or, it can be used during the mississippi (em-eye, crocked letter... etc) primative weapon season in 45/70
