375 ruger efficiency makes sense...
the 35 whelem and 35 whelen a.i. and 358 hawk are THE mose efficient medium bore carts in that order...

the ratio of casehead to bore is very similar and the 375 ruger is most like the 35 hawk

i think the 375 ruger efficiency thing IS for realz. but imho is slightly overbore and the 395,411 and 416 will make this a verrrry well balanced cart.

now the funny thing is is the 35 whelen cal to casehead ratio is almost EXACT with the 395 cal in the ruger case jumping
.70% 375 ruger
.76% 35 whelen
.74% 395-375 ruger
.77% 411-375 ruger
.78% 416-375 ruger

the 395, 411 and 416 will be almost perfect bore on the ruger case with the 411 being the mose efficient by this 35 whelen casegead to cal ratio theory.

i do think a case volume to cal ratio is probably a better rule of thumb though but we dont know case volume of the ruger yet Roll Eyes

reply to self...

if the case volume is 4% more than the 375 h+h that would make it about 100 grains of water.

the 358 hawk is about 75

this would make the case volume ratio of the 358 hawk .21%
458-375 ruger 22%
416-375 ruger 24%
375 ruger 27%

so i guess if you go by the case volume ratio the bigger the better Eeker

I apologize for being a bad influence.
However, every cloud has a silver lining, mixed blessing though it may be. thumb
Thanks to talking to myself, Wink, and bouncing ideas off of boom stick, we now have the .395 on the way.

RIP
boom stick,
How about dem apples? I like dem apples.
Someone claimed that Hornady started with .375 H&H starting loads in the .375 Ruger, figuring this would be more than safe.

Reportedly they were surprised to find much higher pressures than expected, due to the more efficient and rapid burning of the powder in the shorter and fatter .375 Ruger.

I suppose this means that larger doses of slower burning powders than the .375 H&H can handle is what will be required to get the max performance out of the .375 Ruger.

Thanks for mentioning the .395 in such a restrained manner. thumb

I look at efficency as the number of ft
lbs per grain out the muzzle, compared to
total energy put in a grain of powder.
At safe pressures for brass cases.
powder isn't 100% efficient due to
enery lost to heating barrel, friction
in the barrel, expanding barrel
metal in a moving bulge in the steel, etc.
Stick powders have 170 ft lbs per grain,
ball about 180/gr.So for efficiecy figured
on this basis straight cases are best.
They have better volumetric effiency.
Some straight cases,including
my wildcats are 37-39%. Plastic 12ga cases,
the 4759 12ga loads, at a 1/4 of the
pressure of top loads in full loaded
brass rifle cases, is 31%. The 375 Ruger
with 90gr powder, 270 gr bullet(about the
equivalent to 375 Weatherby loads) will
be about 31-33%.Ed.
