good day, just picked up my brand new CZ 550 458, pleasantly surprised with the fit and finish of this rifle, the wood grain is straight with a nice satin finish and wood to metal is very nice. all metal covered in oil and pretty sticky, the trigger is smooth and breaks at 3 pounds with no creep can't tell how smooth the action is until I get everything cleaned up, not surprised about that as the paper work in the box says the gun was made on 3-20-2008.it should have come with rings but will talk to CZ about that but over all very happy now time to clean and start loading ammo, might have to wait a bit to shoot as it is 3 degrees above zero here. have a great day, Jim

Great choice.
I have a bunch of CZ 550 Magnums, both pre- and post-2008.
Most came new-in-box and none came with rings.
They used to come with factory target, owner's manual,
and a funky little tool kit,
but no extra trigger like on the old BRNO ZKK-602.
I noticed they quit the factory targets on the more recent ones I got. ?
The standard OEM CZ 550 Magnum rings are a great choice
for your great choice.

That's a great rifle you have right there. Good deal !!

Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

Great platform. But if it's been sitting for almost 12 years, and that it's a 458, I strongly recommend that you have it bedded, wrist pinned, and cross bolted. Pillar bedded if you like. These aren't hard to do.

I had a 602 in 458 that came with 2 boxes of ammo.. 37 unfired, 2 fired, and the previous owner kept 1 loaded piece. The stock cracked on the 4th shot.. took it home, did the above, and it's still shooting (as a 470mbogo) 20+ years later

Well I am envious. Been a while since I owned one of the big CZs. Good bones. Hope it warms up at your house and you can get out and shoot it.
Jeff is giving great advice, as usual.

Congratulation on your 458WM purchase.
I hope it feeds without issue. If it does your in business.I would not shoot it before I bedded it.You are at the point of greatest risk of cracking the stock. After bedding it best to use red loctite on the guard screws and black loctite on the sight screws.Only then will it shoot accurately with hard kicking 458WM loads.

I own a CZ product, a 308 550 Exclusive. Very good fit and finish. Really like it. Functions reliably without issues. Capable of fine accuracy.

But having to put work into a new rifle to make it fit for purpose? What's up with that - if it's required? Principle of the matter. Manufacturer accountability?

got it cleaned up today and found the nuts for the cross bolts loose on the right side so I think I will lock tight them(red-Blue)? I will drop it off at the gunsmith tomorrow and have him glass bed the action and also bed the barrel recoil lug in place.I had to laugh when my wife asked since you won't find any cape buffalo or elephants here what are you going to shoot?then she said a charging rabbit or coyote? good idea we have tons of cotton tails here and besides this gun will never make it to Africa in my lifetime but maybe I will get a buffalo on the reservation west of here.so next week the fun starts working up loads and see what it can do dancing

One of the most important factors is how it feeds. If it feeds WELL then you have a rifle that can turn into something more solid, and reliable.

I bought a used one pretty cheap with 2 boxes of ammo. Rechambered to 458 Lott as it is good to go lengthwise. Put it in a synthetic stock then sent it to american hunting rifles for a number 2 I think and chopped the barrel to 22” put barrel band sight and sling mount. What a great gun shoots great and holds 5 down. Quite a potent weapon and accounted for a bunch of Australian buffalo so far. Probably the only big bore I need but what’s need have to do with it? Have fun hope you use it on a bison!

Interesting...I have two CZ 550 rifles (pre-2008), both of which came with rings. What's the 2008 thing anyway? What happened then?

tenmikemike, the rifle surprising was still new in the box and came with the test target but nothing else so when I read CZ's came with rings I contacted customer service about this.I figured if they would spring for a set it would save me 92.00.they are sending me a owners manual but he said the Safari never came with rings only the American and it no longer does.he did not offer to sell me any just said contact Talley or Warne so I ordered a set of Talley's
