I drew up a Rigby style sight for a customer based on scaling lots of different photos; so no, its not a true Rigby, its my interpretation; I do believe it came out quite nice...
If I may be so bold.

I'm going to make a couple more if anybody is interested.

I would buy one too if the price is within my budget. Let us know what you will have to charge.

In the white, uninstalled, with dovetail dimensions for mounting and an instruction sheet for getting it regulated to your desired load...

$225USD + shipping.

If you want me to install it and regulate it... we'll talk about it.

Rusty,

put me on the list for at least one, perhaps two.
It would most likely go on a CZ 550 Magnum in 416 Rigby standing in the corner looking at me.

Put me down for one. It will go on a Westley-Richards single square bridge Mauser in 375H&H. If you need any other info let me know. If you were to install and NOT regulate would you need anything other than the bolt? I would definitely be interested in that.

I have a H&H type on my Jeffery. All you need to do is remove the cocking piece and dovetail the site to it. I got a differnt one and kept the original as it is serial numbered to the rifle. That way I can put it back to original if I want.

Can these be put on the bolts of any rifle? Will they work on a rifle equipped with a three position safety?

Not any rifle, the cocking peice must stay exposed from the cocking peice shrowd by .095" minimum (2.41mm) after firing. For example it definatly won't work on a stock Remington 700.
It should fit on a rifle with a 3 postion safety, provided the above note on the cocking piece is met.

I don't know about fitting on a CZ550; but I will know after Friday.

I havn't mounted this sight on a rifle yet, there are plenty of pictures on the net showing Rigby sights mounted. This sight will mount identically.

Example of a current German made Rigby style sight mounted to a custom '98 mauser:

Revision change.

It need to loose some wieght and get more asthetically pleasing. So I fluted the corners off the back side, leaving plenty of steel for it to seat against the cocking peice.

I also put generous radii on the bottom corners.

Great looking sight. I would like one for my Westley Richards .318. There was a peep sight originally mounted on the cocking piece, but it was lost before I bought the rifle (I think the original sight was a Lyman).

I have been trying to find a peep sight for my rifle for some time, but the german company who makes the other peep sight pictured here will not answer my mails. Mauser also makes one, but they are more expensive than a top qality scope (not that I would ever drill my WR for a scope mount)

So, again, great looking sight at a reasonable price

I now have CZ550 in the shop and can tell you that this style sight will not fit a CZ.
I will be exploring alternative mounting methods in the future though, but I'm not going to promise anything.
I'm working in a batch of 4 and will let you all know when those are ready.

With the CZ550 is it a blanket case of 'no go'

as the bolt / shroud comes from the factory or

even with the much desired Lapour(?spelling) 3 position type safety

If the cocking indicator / extension of the bolt(correct term?) is too short, I saw on the Prechtl website extended cocking pieces for use with their Rigby style peep sights.

I would truely enjoy one for my Manlicher Hanel if you are able to get them worked out. Please let me know whenever you put a price together.

Here is a WR .318 with sights mounted to the bolt release. Negates having to drill or tap.

is there a dovetail cut across the back of the cocking piece?

rusty marlin-

how does the knurled disc hold the stem, and what are the openings on either side of the sight body, high and low, for?

thanks.

that's the most sensible and trim sight of that style I've seen, beautiful job. the lymans add a lot of weight to the firing pin, as do the "rigby" rigbys.

I guess the sight could be mounted to the cocking piece shroud if a wider dovetail were used, but there isn't much steel for it to be cut into. I'm afraid it would be a serious compromise to the rigidity of the mount and I'm simply not comfortable enough with the idea to mount one there. There is a floating sleave at the rear that I don't know what it does...yet. I havn't stripped the bolt down to find out. The sleave floates around the rear of the firing pin were it comes though the cocking peice and my guess is that its an alignment bushing.
It doesn't realy matter what that bushing is; it fouls the mounting of this sight style to a stock CZ.

Tin Can:
The thumb wheel is mounted to the stem via the single screw you see in the pics it does not lock the stem.
The "high" opening is for the cam pin( standard Rigby design) the other opening is for my twist on the design for the "click" points when the sight is at the regulated elevations.

The sight weighs 436 grains. Anybody have a real Rigby they can throw on a powder scale for comparison?

Frank: please pst a pic of the Mannlicher Hanel's cocking piece. I'll be able to let you know from that if its a possable fit. The sight would work on my 88GEW Comission rifle, if that helps.

I handed off a Lyman 1A to my father-in-law yesterday. that sight attaches to the cocking piece by way of a disc, probably best described as a washer. the front side, towards the muzzle, is rebated just somewhat to fit over the back of the cocking piece, and shows signs of soldering. there are two screw holes located at 12 and 6 o'clock on the outer, thicker portion of the radius. the back of the washer has a female dovetail cut into it, and the sight itself male dovetails into that.

might be a way to solve a problem installation.

Are you going to take orders? I understand you are going to build 4 now, will there be further builds and if so how does one 'get on the list'? I would really like to have one but would like some idea of when it would be available. The price is most acceptable and I would be willing to either pay up front or make a deposit. Please let us know what the status is.

Fank and tin can-
My Westley has a dovetail cut in the cocking piece. From old catalogs I see they were offered with a Lyman cocking piece sight at least for some time, so I assume this is what was on mine (WR can not tell me when my rifle was made). I considered buying a second bolt stop and mounting a peep sight on it, but it just does not look right, I would like to keep it as close to original as possible.

Sorry Rusty, sidetracked your topic. Like zimbabwe says, how does one `get on the list`?
I really would like one of your sights.

Sure I'll take orders. I'll sell as many as you all are willing to buy. I believe I have a buyer for the original, and a deposit coming for one of this batch of 4.
The next three deposits of 50% of the my asking price get the last three in this batch. I'll order more stock and replacment tools and get right on the next batch.

I would like at least one.

I assume it will fit left hand M98 Zastava / Chas. Daley, plus the new manufacture Empire Arms Legacy and Standard Mauser action rifles?

Would you ship the item to the UK?

Alternative payment methods like credit card or direct bank to bank transfer?
