Hi anyone know of a source for lighter (350 to 400 grain) bullets for the 500 Jeffery? I'd prefer jacketed because I'd like to get them going at around 2400 fps for medium game (deer, elk, etc.)

Regards,

Chuck

Since you will most likely be handloading the Jeffery, my advice is to go ahead and use the 535 grain bullets availlable and slower burning powders for starting loads. If possible use one of the loading programs like "Quickload" or "Load from a Disc" as these are very useful with the estimated pressures and velocities. An advantage with "Barnes" style bullets is that they take up some of the massive capicity of these great cartridges. Check out the Barnes loading manual and just use the starting loads with their bullets and NO less to begin with. Rodney.

Hi Rodney, I already have a load for the 535s using RL 15 (Barnes Manual No. 4). I asked Geoff at Woodleigh for load data using his 535s and RL-15 also, haven't got a response yet, but he's always been very helpful. Barnes lists aminimum of 102.5g of RL-15 for 2260 fps with theier 535g TSX. I'd like a nice mild load at around 2000 fps with RL-15 as long as the load density is ok.

If you have some Reloader 22, that would be a good powder to slow things down a bit and should perform very well in the .500 Jeffery.

So, this isn't ACTUAL but it feels like, in the big bores, that you can swap, in terms of recoil, 100gr for 100FPS ..

So, if you drop 100gr, and pick up 100 FPS, you'll feel very simalar recoil

I'll have my 500 jeffe running again, sooner than later, as well as my 500 AR, both on enfields.

these big ole 50s are a ball to shoot.. and 600gr bullets at 1600fps is easy to shoot!

You could try the Woodleigh 440gn designed for BP Guns. Just remember it is rated for 1700-2000 fps so expect it to expand rapidly if it hits game at 2400 fps.

But for pigs, deer etc, could be fun.

We have a 450gr HV bullet that can run 2500+ from a 24" barrel. You could use A4064, start with 120gr.
