375 Ruger vs 416 Ruger
It seems that when the 375 Ruger was announced that there was a significant and immediate negative reaction by many.... "How dare Ruger challenge the mighty 375 H&H?"

Now the talk is not about IF there will be a 416 Ruger but WHEN will it be available. No real outcry from the 416 Rigby and the "other" (Rem, Taylor, etc) 416's crowd. Appears that the 416 Ruger has already been accepted....

Was/Is the 375 H&H on a bigger pedestal than the 416 Rigby? Was/Is the 375 H&H more classic/nostalgic than the 416 Rigby?

Does the proposed 416 Ruger actually fill a real niche in the big bore line-up?

Just wondering....... beer

It duplicates the .416 Remington Mag.....if you want a .416 in a standard action.....the answer is yes!

vapodog,

That the 416 Ruger should/will work through a standard action is a real positive.

It will probably replace my favorite round, the 416 Taylor, in new guns.

After all the theory and talk and angst about a cartridge has to have this or that shoulder at a certain angle to head space properly, the 416 Ruger won't have much of a shoulder. But it probably won't matter.

The Ruger won't be as skinny as the Taylor but it will be easier to get to 2400 fps with the 400 gr. bullet.

I'm going to wait for the 416 WSSM. Smiler

The 416 Ruger will likely become the New King of the .416's, just as the .375 Ruger has become the New King of the .375's..

Statements like that are exactly why the .375 Ruger was received coolly. Wink

May be by the dithering few who idolize the 375 Rooger. I'm sure those who posted their disdain for the former have only one thing to say about the latter: ditto. That explains the lack of posting. It's all a matter of, "who cares."

You're just stirring the pot.

Guess I'm just set in my ways. I like long actions for big calibers. I'll stick with my .416 Rem over the .416 Booger. Oops accidental typo. Smiler

Since I believe every living breathing man ought to own and buy as many rifles as they can afford I whole hearedly endorse these new cartridges, especially since there is an excellent chance that they will drive down the price for used .375H&H's and .416Remington's!

From a practical standpoint both the Ruger rounds make a ton of sense. Full length power in standard actions, perfect for rebarreling old Mod. 70s and Mausers. I just have to razz Gatehouse so as to offer some resistance to all the NEW KING crap.

I suppose we'll just have t wait and see..I'm betting on the 416 Ruger and built myself one and I really like it..Is it better than the .416 Rem, I don't know why it would be, it has no more redeeming features IMO..I think one is as good as the other however..

But since my childhood and thats many a moon, I have heard the outcry from all the experts to give us a non belted 375 and 416 that would work through a short action, and low and behold the cries of anguish have been answered and the maddness has silanced, like spoiled children when you get everything you want. you don't appreciate it when you have it...
