I have a 375 H&H winchester 70 safari express. Could I have this rebored and chambered to 458 lott? I think the barrel is heavy enough. Or is it simplest to rebarrel? Anyone know a good person who rebores rifle barrels?
Thanks

defintily rebarrel.

but if your going to do that why not go to a 470 capstick the largest possblie dia that the 375 h&h case can go.

will do evry thing the lott will and do it a cunt hair better cause of the extra frontal a rea.

Thanks,
I've been thinking about the 470 as well, got a lot of 458 bullets though. If I have to rebarrel think I might go with the 470.

Any reason not to simply rebore to the lott? Is there anyone that does this work anymore? It used to be common.

unless the stock is something fantastic, a rebore to 458 lott is probably both cost and (decreased) weight prohibitive.

Dean,

You could rebore your Winchester to .458 Lott, but that would take the rifle two levels of recoil above what it was designed for.

Winchester only built their regular factory production on .375 H&H; the .458 Lotts and ..470 Capsticks were Custom SHop only. I believe you will find your rifle is too light, and the stock won't be ready for prime time without significant work.

Have you thought about a .400?

I have a Winchester Safari Classic in 458 Win Mag. I might be interested it trading your 375 H&H for if it is in really great condition. Mine is new.
