Has anyone seen and handeled the new CZ 550 mag in 404, 450 and 505 gibs? How was the overall fit and finish, was the stock nice. Were all these upgrades worth the rifle costing $1,700?
I've booked a buff hunt for sept in Zambia and need a DG rifle and I'm torn between buying a 404 or a 375 H&H.

hmmmm
myself, I would buy the 416 or the lott, load down to train, and then go forward

I wouldn't bet the farm on the 404's being out ASAP

I saw all three rifles at the SCI convention. The overall fit and finish ws very good. Upgraded walnut, etc.

You can get a number of options such as bolt jewelled, recoil reducer in stock, bedding and choice of bluing as it is assembled in the USA.

We were told that the lead time was about 8 weeks but as the show went on interest and orders developed, they said it would probably take 16 weeks. Contact Jason at CZ for details. www.cz-usa.com

If you figure the upgrades on a proven platform, it is probably the best value. I don't see how you could put together a similar rifle for less.

Another good thing is that Federal will be loading the .404 this summer but it may not be available by your hunt. If you don't reload, www.safariarms.com or www.superiorammo.com can load for you.

Good luck.

RCG,
Did they ever get around to straightening the bolt handle and plugging the hole in the bolt handle knob?
Thanks,

Handle is still the same as before. I agree that it should be a solid handle and the classic Mauser straight profile.

CZ has a new brochure and includes a new website for this line. Called "Safari Classics" they show www.safariclassics.com I tried it and it is not up and running yet. Keep it in mind for future. Call them at 800.955.4486 for the brochure.
